Most beautiful to me are Priya and Heimana. When I had a DD I didn’t feel I could use either due to being neither south East Asian (Priya) or Polynesian (Heimana). To be fair, very pale and freckled DD wouldn’t suit either name so it’s probably just as well although still disappointing 18 years on.

I'm not sure why, but I find Malachi a beautiful boys name. I have never met one although I know two Malik's.

I love that too

There’s a Saint Columba.

Chilbolton80 · 04/03/2026 22:09

Not the Corsican version....

I've never met a Colomba. The closest I've known is somebody who had the portrait of Colomba, as seen on beer cans of the beverage bearing the same name - tattoo'ed on his arm.

He was sort of Marseille/Algerian though.

I have always adored Gemma. But with an (authentic) Italian pronunciation. it’s just so soulful, strong and still soft! :)
Séréna (French pronunciation), Daphne (English pronunciation), Clémentine and Louisa. Ellis is really pretty as well.

Anton, Aaron, Arik, Emil, Sebastian and Nathaniel. Adam is also really pretty.

I’m a top Gemma fan! Wanted it for my kids but my exh refused. Tosser

Allegra

One of my all-time favourites, too, though many people would say it is Sloaney. I associate it with Byron (who picked it up in Venice): to me it's the name of a little girl of that era.

I also love the name Vivien, which I see is becoming quite popular.

I have always loved the boy's name Leopold, which many think beyond the pale.🙂I like German boys' names generally: Sigismund, Waldemar, also nice and not well known in the UK. Very 19th century and probably not used much anywhere now (though Waldemar is Vladimir, which is used)

When I did my French degree, I'm sure I learned that eglantine means honeysuckle

Woodbine also means honeysuckle, but seems to have fallen out of use even for the plant - wonder why? 😃
I can't see that one taking off as a name anytime soon...

I always loved the name Araminta as a child. And Cecily and Clover. Heavily influenced by the TV shows and books I watched and read.

Today, I would choose Iris, Clementine and Eleanor.

Cecily and Clover from "What Katy did?" When I read that book as a child I adored the name Elsie, for my favourite character. (These days I'd go with Katy instead, and I confess I think Elsie is the most sickly, wishy-washy name!)

Dove for a girl. I just think it sounds so elegant and beautiful

Not if you’re northern - here it would be pronounced Duv

Almakarlinsghost · 06/03/2026 12:35

Thinking about it, I have a certain Georgian/early 19th thing going with girls names, as aside from Allegra I also quite like Louisa, and have loved the name Caroline since childhood. This one is also, like Allegra, the name of a child in white dress to me - though every Caroline I have known has been quite a strapping lass, and not a bit like the image the name conjures in my mind!

Almakarlinsghost · 06/03/2026 12:38

...and Maria and Sophia, pronounced with the hard "i" as in England circa 1810..
