Thoughts on Emily Rose? Is it too sweet and unsubstantial?

I think it’s pretty but I think it was very common combination about 20 odd years ago when Emily was popular so I’d imagine many would be concentrated in the 20-30 age range. I know there’s alot of discourse on here about the middle name rose being a filler and boring, I have no family connection to it and I am one of them people who would be choosing it just for how it sounds.
I know middle names aren’t used anyway so I may be overthinking but the full name is important imo.
I would appreciate your thoughts and any other suggestions would be appreciated

Congratulations!

For me it’s a little too common, I like more unusual names. If you really love it though, you should use it.

id personally go for a twist like Emily Rosalind / Emily Rosamund/ Emily Rosalie.

DiscoBeat · 02/03/2026 01:14

I think it's a lovely, classic name

Toddlerteaplease · 02/03/2026 01:36

It’s lovely

GoodVibesHere · 02/03/2026 03:23

It's very pretty, I love it.

LivingTheDreamish · 02/03/2026 04:02

It's classic and pretty but yes a bit predictable. Not a problem if you love it! But I do like the suggestion of Emily Rosalind above. Every bit as pretty but a bit more distinctive.

EvolvedAlready · 02/03/2026 04:44

Isn’t it a movie? The exorcism of Emily rose?

FarAwayBird · 02/03/2026 04:45

It’s a very pretty name. A close friend of mine has it. Just one reference in case it bothers you - there is a horror film called The Exorcism of Emily Rose…

dailyconniptions · 02/03/2026 05:27

It's utterly boring to me and I would avoid Rose. Emily is such a dull name, that if you're set on it, at least have a fabulous middle name!

Saynototheinevitable · 02/03/2026 05:31

Emilia Rose
Emilia Pearl
Emilia Jade

I recently met a baby Isobel Pearl which I thought was a beautiful combination of names.

Riverflow6 · 02/03/2026 05:34

I like Emily.

Rose as a middle name is done to absolute death. Like the Louise of the 90s

Emilia Rose

The 'mealy' noise in Emilia is really awful though.

RichPetuniaAgain · 02/03/2026 05:48

Lovely.

Jrisix · 02/03/2026 05:53

I think it's lovely and classic. Beyond the birth announcement nobody knows or cares what the middle name is.

Mypoorbody · 02/03/2026 06:02

What does a substantial name mean?
I like Emily. If you do and it sounds good with your surname go for it - most people will not know or remember the middle name of your child.

Cricketashes · 02/03/2026 06:04

My immediate thought was the horror film.

That's the first thing I thought.

Rayqueen2026 · 02/03/2026 07:02

Well there are many Emily roses at my children's schools from 4 -15 it's to common a name I wouldn't pick it

Bellybellas · 02/03/2026 07:15

We know at least 3 girls/women called Emily Rose Surname, two in the wider family.

Personally I find it a little dull and unimaginative

Emily Rose is the equivalent of Sarah Jane or Sarah Louise… overdone and boring.

SparklyGlitterballs · 02/03/2026 07:24

It's a lovely name. I know someone who is expecting a girl and this is the name she has chosen too. Two classic names and spelled correctly. Perfect.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 02/03/2026 07:32

Rather wet

Zennia · 02/03/2026 08:04

There's a 20 year old horror flick called the Exorcism of Emily Rose. I don't think it's a huge deal but it's something to be aware of.

The combination does seem very "2000s" to me. Emily is lovely but was hugely popular during that era, and Rose is probably the most popular middle name for women/girls under 30.

namestealer · 02/03/2026 08:05

I think it's a beautiful name, feminine, classic and passes the high court judge test.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/03/2026 08:08

It’s lovely.

The 'mealy' noise in Emilia is really awful though.

😁 also Emilia will be misspelled as Amelia.
Emily is much nicer imo.

The reason Emily Rose is frequently used is because it's a pretty sounding name. Not really sure why it's so important to people to have an unusual name.
