Thoughts on Emily Rose? Is it too sweet and unsubstantial?

I think it’s pretty but I think it was very common combination about 20 odd years ago when Emily was popular so I’d imagine many would be concentrated in the 20-30 age range. I know there’s alot of discourse on here about the middle name rose being a filler and boring, I have no family connection to it and I am one of them people who would be choosing it just for how it sounds.
I know middle names aren’t used anyway so I may be overthinking but the full name is important imo.
I would appreciate your thoughts and any other suggestions would be appreciated

Very magnolia paint, plus a horror film about a student who dies from a failed exorcism?

@Fivelegged you ruined the ending!!!

@Chasepaw5 , it's a lovely feminine name and if you don't mind the ubiquity, go for it!

Copperoliverbear · 03/03/2026 00:07

Lovely classic name but I like it Spelt Emilie Rose

EmeraldRoulette · 03/03/2026 00:13

The film scared me so much, I can't think of anything else when I hear that name.

NamingNoNames · 03/03/2026 10:01

Emilie Rose looks like an attempt to make a completely ordinary name seem different or couldn't decide between Emily and Amelie.

paddleboardingmum · 04/03/2026 00:06

Emily is nice but how about a different flower-y name for a middle name

Emily Iris
Emily Primrose
Emily Flora

MeganM3 · 04/03/2026 00:13

I like it. Everyone knows a nice Emily.
Can take or leave the Rose. It feels like Rose is just there for the sake of it. Although it’s also nice as an individual name.

I like that there’s a lot of history to both names.

NamingNoNames · 04/03/2026 10:10

It feels like Rose is just there for the sake of it.
It's the Anne/Jane/Louise of its time.

How about something a but more interesting as a middle name? There must be 1000s of names to choose from.

Emily Juliet Surname or something.

Carycach4 · 04/03/2026 13:24

Too beige!

KayEmAy · 04/03/2026 21:29

Pretty but boring

carben · 04/03/2026 22:00

I know an Eleanor Rose

mumwithallthebooks · 05/03/2026 00:56

I think it's lovely. Guess if you really wanted to you could go for Amalie but Emily Rose will stand her in good stead for whatever she would like to do in life.

NamingNoNames · 05/03/2026 14:11

Amalie - bad spelling of Amelie.

Zennia · 05/03/2026 18:34

@NamingNoNames it's a traditional name in Denmark and Germany for example.

NamingNoNames · 05/03/2026 18:57

Oh OK. How does one say it?

SofiaLePrince · 05/03/2026 19:00

I do find Emily a little bit insipid, but there's nothing wrong with it per se.

Emily Rose is the name of a horror movie as already mentioned on here, so that's quite off-putting.

I love Emmeline though as an alternative to Emily.

sprigatito · 05/03/2026 19:06

It is a bit insipid, but it’s a pretty name. Are there any other names you like?

Sparkles29 · 05/03/2026 19:11

It’s lovely! I would love to be called it, and I think it’s a beautiful name for your baby girl!

worcesterpear · 05/03/2026 19:17

you won't be saying the full name unless you hyphenate it though, so in some ways it doesn't really matter (only to be used in case the child doesn't like their first name, and Rose is nice).
For alternatives what about Emily Elizabeth?

Duckgate · 05/03/2026 19:20

It's a classic and lovely. There's no way it will ever be classed as dated and regularly has popularity spikes, more than most other names. I know Emily's aged from newborn all the way up to 90yo.
It's currently a pretty popular name in my area with primary aged children. There also seem to be lots of...

Emily Grace,
Emily Jane,
Emily mae,
Emily Elizabeth.

These are all popular names in my children's circles of friends as well as Emily Rose.

Hsc20 · 05/03/2026 19:38

I think it’s nice but I have a Rose Léonie (we’re French). There will be a few though (although probably older) if it bothers you.

BatsInHibernation · 05/03/2026 20:50

It's pretty but too bland for me personally.
Even though I'm a fan of names being spelled as expected, in this case I like Emilie better (as in Sande). I would also want to go for something more striking in the middle
Emilie Rosamund
Emilie Rosanne
Emilie Rosalind
But if you want that simple one syllable middle maybe something less expected
Emilie Faye
Emilie Jean
Emilie Pearl
Emilie Wren
Moving away altogether from Emily/Emilie you might like
Evelyn, Mallory, Polly, Emmeline.

Oh OK. How does one say it?

It seems to vary based on language, but the German pronunciation is pretty close to the English pronunciation of Amalia.

Thanks. Is thar Am-ARL-ya or Amal-EE-a?

arl in a non-rhotic accent.

YourWinter · 05/03/2026 21:29

Gorgeous. She’ll never use her middle name anyway, so it really doesn’t need switching to eg Rosalind.
