I like Claude and Julian.

Angel would be teased in UK, I'm sorry.

Cairo is a bit try-hard and Kai is just not a great vibe.

We knew a 14-year old Angel and he wasn’t teased at all. Kids are accepting of different names and adults should be too. If kids are going to tease then they’ll find any way to do it.

It’s pronounced like “See-eh-lo”, it’s a masculine noun that means heaven or sky in Spanish but it’s more commonly used as a girl name. I like how it sounds and the meaning of it but I’m worried it’s literally a word and the last name would be Flores which is another literal word more than a name . I don’t know if I’m explaining myself 😅

The same word is pronounced more like Che low in Italian so anyone who doesn’t realise it’s Spanish rather than Italian will pronounce it wrong, as will most English speakers if they don’t know any Spanish, probably

I don’t hate it but I think it’ll be annoying for him.
I think Kai and Cairo are awful, I’m not a fan of angel, I think Julian is a bit wet personally but I wouldn’t judge it. I’d assume French not Spanish with Claude though I do like it and Casper is quite popular now.

Is there a reason you’re not going with the more ‘classic’ Spanish names like Alejandro, mateo, Lucas, Carlos or cesar, that would all work easily in the uk if that’s the main aim?

if you’re not bothered about it being Spanish some similar vibe names to cielo might be enzo, Leo, Elias, rafe, Jovan

Cielo Flores? Literally Sky Flowers? No.

"here's a tube of cielo, and some caneston combi tablets to calm the itch..."

Come back in a week...

Cielo, as other posters have said, is either a rubbish car from the 90s or a pessary... It's not good for a human name

It’s not like that at all. Means sky and pronounced Sello in Spanish and Cello (like the instrument) in Italian.

It's sielo and chielo not sello and cello

HootyMcB00b · 01/03/2026 14:49

No, don't use it. It does mean "sky" in Spanish but it's also used as a term if endearment. Equivalent of naming your child "darling"...

It's sielo and chielo not sello and cello

In Italian it’s Chaylow with the emphasis on the first syllable.

These replies are very harsh. Society and schools nowadays are far more multicultural than in the past and I think most kids wouldn't bat an eyelid at the name Cielo. If it's a name from your culture and you don't mind the possible pronunciation issues, I think it's fine.

Krakinou · 02/03/2026 12:29

Cielo - I think the pronunciation would be quite difficult for UK relatives. I really don’t think it’d work in my accent. Could you ask a couple of friends to try pronouncing the names on your list and see if you’re ok with them.
Have you got a nickname in mind?

If you’re using Flores as the surname, why not “Sky” as a first name to reflect the cultural mix and stop it sounding too much like a perfume brand. And it sounds a lot like Kai (though if you really like Kai just ignore your grandma).

I love Angel, but if you’re in the UK you’ll need to be ok with it being pronounced as the English word. Colleagues, friends etc will be able to cope with the Spanish pronunciation but strangers are almost always going to get it wrong. I quite like it with the English pronunciation too though.

Other ideas… there’s a Rodrigo in my DDs class who everyone calls Guigo which I think is really cute.

Julian Flores sounds good
