What are your thoughts on Cielo for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PinkPomeloFruit · 28/02/2026 21:13

No.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 28/02/2026 21:13

I associate it with girls tbh - my Spanish is incredibly rusty but is it not a girl's name?

EmpressaurusKitty · 28/02/2026 21:14

Sky? Is it used as a name in Italy?

MayWelland · 28/02/2026 21:15

How do you pronounce it?

k1233 · 28/02/2026 21:17

Is it pronounced Sello (as in a brand of sticky tape) or Cello (as in the musical instrument)?I'd say no for either pronunciation.

GentleIron · 28/02/2026 21:21

Lovely. Was on my list as middle name.

EmpressaurusKitty · 28/02/2026 21:23

If it’s the Italian for sky then it’s CHAY-low, more or less.

I don’t know about Spanish.

AirMaster · 28/02/2026 21:25

Thee-ell-o?
See-ell-o?

Viviennemary · 28/02/2026 21:25

No. Don't like it, too strange.

AgentPidge · 28/02/2026 21:26

No

CurlewKate · 28/02/2026 21:27

Is it a name from your culture?

crispypotatoes · 28/02/2026 21:35

@bluecupcakevI don’t think it’s awful for a boy. I’m Italian and quite honestly it wouldn’t really get used here, but it wouldn’t be seen as a distasteful name. It’s a nature themed name, with a spiritual touch, so there’s nothing bad to associate with it.

Pineapplesunshine · 28/02/2026 21:36

Makes me think of CeeLo Green who did the song ‘Forget you’ (amongst other things) - I’m sure i saw him interviewed and he took that as his name / stage name cos of the heaven meaning (I may be misremembering the details though - I generally think of it as meaning sky).
Thielo is how I would say it. I don’t mind it, but not come across it as a name apart from Mr Green. My husband is Spanish - i mention that in terms of not coming across it as a name before, although we live in the uk so that probably doesn’t mean much !

It’s pronounced like “See-eh-lo”, it’s a masculine noun that means heaven or sky in Spanish but it’s more commonly used as a girl name. I like how it sounds and the meaning of it but I’m worried it’s literally a word and the last name would be Flores which is another literal word more than a name . I don’t know if I’m explaining myself 😅

I think it's a girl's name that noone will be able to say.
I speak Italian so I would either say it the Italian way (which would be wrong, according to your update) or try to anglicise it (ditto).

Bloopbloopbleep · 28/02/2026 22:37

It just reminds me of the manson murders

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 28/02/2026 22:37

Strange. I've been reading about the Manson murders today that happened on Cielo Drive so that's what I'd think of. I get that's quite a niche comment though.

IsadoraQuagmire · 28/02/2026 22:50

I'd automatically pronounce it the Italian way because I learned to speak Italian before I learned to speak Spanish. So it would probably get mispronounced a lot

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 28/02/2026 22:53

It’s a girls name but I do like it.

IsadoraQuagmire · 28/02/2026 22:53

And as PP have said, everyone will think of Sharon Tate.

So the English translation of the name would be Sky Flowers?

StripedVase · 28/02/2026 23:07

It's really pretty but you'd face multiple inventive pronunciations all the time! also i do think of the aldi (or lidl can't remember) cosmetics line Ciel...

RaininSummer · 28/02/2026 23:28

Nobody will know how to pronounce it in Britain so a lifetime of explaining. I don't dislike it but maybe better as a middle name.

Like Coeliac disease?
