Phoenix Buchanan in Paddington 2 is the only time I've ever encountered it as a given name. And that's fiction.

I like Felix though.

Personally I like phoenix as I like more unusual names but I am not the MN norm.

I haven’t met a Phoenix yet where the parents have managed to spell the name correctly, they all can’t be going for a unique spelling?

I do think Phoenix is a cool name, but it takes a lot to pull it off. I wouldn’t risk it. Felix is nice, although it’s for many people a cat name.

Felix reminds me of the cat. Phoenix is a name that will stand out, but I'm not entirely sure if would be for the right reasons. If I had to pick, then Felix but in all honesty I don't like either of them.

I actually thought he was called Felix as I miss-heard his mum say his name.

Imagine having skinny, quiet, nerdy kid (like my ds!) and them being called Phoenix! It would sound absolutely ridiculous and no one should have to try to live up to their name.

My first association for Phoenix is the city in Arizona. Not terrible, but a little "random". I like Felix; nice meaning, too.

I love these threads. I have a strapping 18 year old DS called Phoenix and it suits him. Thankfully others opinions matter little to me, and most of the names thrown about on these boards make me shudder. It would be boring if we were all the same.
