Someone who loved Judge Dread was going to call child Dread. Thankfully was persuaded otherwise.

When pregnant, I was tempted to call the baby Atticus if a boy (luckily had a girl)
Went to school with a Robin Hood
A friends cousin is Geronimo

Spare a thought for those born on Pancake Tuesday 😊

What about twins? Pancake and Shrove, both with Tuesday as their second name.

Myoldbear · 12/02/2026 20:46

No, actually Pancake's second name could be Day.

Notashamed13 · 12/02/2026 20:51

Baby "Cornelious" 😬

damntheyaremymonkeys · 12/02/2026 20:53

I get random baby announcements popping up on instagram all the time, mostly American. I had one last week with a baby girl called Local and another called Stone, my friend sent me one called Skipper earlier.

BV are unfortunate initials 😬

My cousin’s initials are VD and her mother’s were STD.

I know of a child called Galahad - absolutely lovely family, not pretentious or chavvy, just an unusual choice of names/

My youngest son has one of the most hated names on mumsnet so I'm prepared to see that one pop up.
I almost changed it when he was little but glad I didn't as he loves it as much as I do.

Meghan?

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 12/02/2026 21:08

Was at Uni with a guy called Mark.
His birth name was Meriadoc.
His parents were full on 'knit your own yoghurt' hippy types.
He was not.

Baby "Cornelious" 😬

Does he have Dutch ancestry? It's quite a common name in the Netherlands.

My mum was due on Valentine's Day so her parents planned to call her Valentina! I think that would have been pretty bad. Luckily she was late.

Valentina is a beautiful Italian name!

TiredShadows · 12/02/2026 21:10

In person - Consolation.

In records - Oretha is up there, though (looking primarily at US records) the vast number that tool wholesale names of 'admirable' leaders who were really horrible always makes me uncomfortable.

The4thSister · 12/02/2026 21:13

There is a boy in DC's class called Dolton with an older brother called Dylon (definitely pronounced Dylon not Dylan).

I taught a student many years ago called Roses and I used to work with a lovely gent called Cad, he swore it was short for Cadbury but it was Cadnacious (might be mis-spelt but similar sounding).

Oh and my ex taught a Lambretta who was known as Lammy

Was Blessing Nigerian?

There’s a pharmacist locally whose name is Blessing.

June? That’s one I can see becoming popular again in the near future

No

A dd had a friend whose parents saw fit to name her Polly Esther Cotton.

ChapmanFarm · 12/02/2026 21:33

It's the I'll thought through combinations.

I went to school with a Joanne King. Can't even shorten to Jo as it's still a comedy name.

Both fine individually but not together (and not if your accent is slightly Scouse)

TimeForATerf · 12/02/2026 19:18

Princess, Junior, Jet & Bunny. 🙃 The mother has another child called Harvey, which was a fine name.

Of course there’s also Buddy Bear and Rocket River, their sister Petal has an alternative name but their other sisters have normal first names, pity about their middle names.

And let’s not forget Honey Kinney and Betty Kitten.

If the celebs can call their children shit names, then I guess it’s ok for us mere mortals to call our kids shit names too.

disagree about the middle names being a pity - if ever there was an opportunity to let your imagination go wild, it is the middle name. Hidden in full view as it were!!

We should celebrate the best middle names

I’m guessing Amabel

No, have never even heard of Amabel as a name. More on the lines of Hettie and Hattie. Both heard of names and neither amusing.

Blanknotebook · 12/02/2026 21:49

Neveah was very popular a few years ago. ( Heaven spelled backwards) It just reminded me of Nivea moisturising cream.

loislovesstewie · 12/02/2026 21:51

I met someone called Nivea years ago, very odd!

Anjo2011 · 12/02/2026 21:55

Not so much hideous as odd. There was a child at my youngest dds nursery many years ago and he was called Box. Not a nickname. I kid you not.

Burntt · 12/02/2026 22:06

Yeah mine. Posting before reading the thread but I predict it will be on here. But I won’t share it because it’s outing. I’ve never seen it mentioned positively. Regularly see it on baby name threads as a terrible choice when someone is asking for older names. I was bullied horrendously for it and because of that I would never mock someone else’s name

Burntt · 12/02/2026 22:20

Yup. Just seen my name mentioned 🙄

Malena is a very common Hispanic name. Melena, apart from what you described, means main or a person’s long hair.

It maybe a beautiful Hispanic name meaning mane or a person's long hair but in the UK where I am and where MN is based it means tarry, black (ie bloody) stool. Hence it's not a great thing to be called imo.

Well, I heard of a child whose parents had named him Mason but insisted it was spelt with an ‘i’ after the a - anyone who knew any French at all, blinked a bit.

I know one of those! The puzzlement is real .
