Im having twins, two girls and were thinking Clementine Catherine and Olive Odette. We like the matching fruit names, and Odette and Clementine both have French origin. Are they okay names?

*Typo in the post. I meant Tell me my kids names arent going to be that bad

The names are ok (bit pretentious, as other posters have said) but not awful.

The alliteration, however, is cringe! Don’t do this! 🤯

Lurkingonmn · 31/01/2026 08:45

I would consider saying first name surname and first name middle name surname together to see how it sounds. Check initials for any unfortunate potential nicknames.
I would avoid giving them first names with the same letter because that could cause issues (with post etc. Miss C surname). Or C.O and C.O /O.C and O.C etc.
I'd avoid having twins names too similar. I once taught twins with names like Olive Olivia and they got mixed up a lot and treated as o e rather than individuals too much imo and theirs. I think all 4 names are fine. They can all be shortened though- I that something you want? My parents both hate their shortened versions so gave all their kids names that cannot be shortened.
Maybe wait until they are here to decide for sure which names to use. You might decide to switch them round or chop and change once they are here.
I don't think it is an overly noticeable "theme" of fruit. They are also shades/colours, which is kind of cute accept if they grow up getting orange and green stuff and hating it but it also might make things easier (and hope they don't hate it lol).
My main thing would be to avoid having the same initials though.

Your babies your choice if you like the names. I would say though I think for first names clementine and odette work better together, or Catherine and Olive/Olivia. Clementine and olive sounds like a pretentious mummy kids brand.

I personally wouldn’t alliterate them and would make them mirror names, eg Olive Catherine and Clementine Odette. I think it could sound gimmicky for twins to have alliterative names.

This ^^

Omg you’re right. It sounds just like.

Sorry but I picture you in the park shouting “Clementine, Olive! Come to Mummy!” And you are going to sound very pretentious.

Especially if having a picnic....
(sorry)

SleepingStandingUp · 31/01/2026 09:20

First names are fine, plenty of people go all flower names for kids so I wouldn't over think the fruit. Not a huge fan of Olive but I wouldn't judge it

I'd probably balance the syllables more and give Clementine a shorter middle name and Olive a longer one.

SpookedMackerel · 31/01/2026 09:24

Olive is a nice name (Dd has a friend called Olive, and I think I like it because of that).

But it doesn’t have the flouncy elegance of Clementine.

I think alliteration is fine, I don’t like the matchy fruit theme.

I would give one twin both fruit names - Olive Clementine or Clementine Olive.

And Catherine Odette or Odette Catherine for the other.

I’d avoid giving them identical initials, so either Olive and Catherine, or Clementine and Odette.

JuliettaCaeser · 31/01/2026 09:35

Agree avoid matching initials! So much confusion in the future with post

Usernamenotav · 31/01/2026 09:42

Clemi and Oli are cute nicknames. I like their first names. I like odette as a name but not really with Olive for some reason. I don't like Catherine with Clementine. But it's up to you what names you want for your babies

Sugargliderwombat · 31/01/2026 09:50

I think themed names for twins aren't great, they're more than just a twin, they're their own people not just half of a set.

SolOlly · 31/01/2026 09:56

Personally I think that it feels like you’ve given two cool names to one twin and two average ones to the other (my daughter also has Catherine as a middle name so I’m not against it and I also like olive) but I would go for clementine for one and odette for the other Then they’ve each got a more unusual first name which I think goes better

Oblivionnnnn · 31/01/2026 10:02

Sometimes when you’re pregnant you go a bit hormonal and mental. So I’m just going to pose this thought…you are considering naming your children matchy fruit names. Fruit names. Names of fruits.

Individually fine, but matching fruits sounds very silly.

I think Clementine is perfectly ok but Olive is not really very nice and like a previous reply says would be very drab compared to her sister.
Olivia is better but there are so many Olivias now.
Odette might be a cool name in UK now but in France it is very old fashioned and not in a good way as it usually belongs to women
in their 70 s or 80s.

Yes, at a picnic op might sound extremely greedy shouting that out!

The "some reason" is that too many names starting in O together sounds like someone hurriedly gulping down the last of their cup of tea.

Bemused89 · 31/01/2026 11:01

Both first names are fine. Both second names are fine. I wouldn't alliterate though. It cheapens both names. Why don't you tie them together Olive Catherine and Clementine Odette sounds better than Olive Odette and Clementine Catherine.

DearDenimEagle · 31/01/2026 11:11

I was dreaming of Popeye last night..thanks 🤣I think Olive Oyl probably isn’t as well known to the younger generations…or Olive from On the Buses…probably coloured my opinion , being older and thinking of the problems it would have caused at school with nicknames ..especially cartoon Olive. But you still get the Olive Oil , jokes about virgins and late pressings come to mind…you can tell I had a lot of school years to contend with 🤣 it sounds as old as Clementine, but then old names come back

🎶Oh my darling , oh my darling, oh my darling , Clementine, you are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine 🎵

She has a song already

Ellemaggie · 31/01/2026 11:18

Not sure why so many people think "clammy" for Clementine, but no-one has said they think of "odour" for Odette! Must be just me - I don't think "clammy" at all for Clementine.

Cailleachnamara · 31/01/2026 11:38

OP please think VERY hard before giving your twins matching fruit names.

What may seem cute when they are babies is going to be really cringe worthy and gimmicky as they get older and they may resent you for not viewing them as individuals.

Also personally think Clementine is dreadful. I can only imagine a cow being called this - like Buttercup or Clover but this may just be me!

Splat92 · 31/01/2026 11:50

I love your name choices but like other PPs have said I'd go with a C O and a O C combination rather than have the matching letters.

I'm surprised so many people dislike Olive, I think it is nicer than Olivia personally.

pouletvous · 31/01/2026 11:53

Dont name them both after a fruit. That’s just silly

Both names are ok alone but not as a pair. They’re not dogs or cartoon characters. They’re going to be individual and independent women one day. Not half the fruity twins

elfendom1 · 31/01/2026 12:17

Blueyrocks · 30/01/2026 13:26

I think they're really pretty names. If it was me, I'd call them Odette Olive and Clementine Catherine, or Odette Catherine and Clementine Olivia, because I think it's a shame to have the name Odette tucked away as a middle name. But any combo is gorgeous. Just, I'd avoid Clementine Olive, as that's pretty fruity 😂Clemmie and Odette. Such lovely names 😊

I was going to say the same thing. Odette is far too pretty to come second to the name Olive.

Mum311023 · 31/01/2026 12:19

Catherine is a beautiful name it's also an Irish name is think. that's my middle name. Odette that sounds like a African name but it's beautiful. Clementine that's cute.
