Im having twins, two girls and were thinking Clementine Catherine and Olive Odette. We like the matching fruit names, and Odette and Clementine both have French origin. Are they okay names?

*Typo in the post. I meant Tell me my kids names arent going to be that bad

I think they're really pretty names. If it was me, I'd call them Odette Olive and Clementine Catherine, or Odette Catherine and Clementine Olivia, because I think it's a shame to have the name Odette tucked away as a middle name. But any combo is gorgeous. Just, I'd avoid Clementine Olive, as that's pretty fruity 😂Clemmie and Odette. Such lovely names 😊

Lovely names, and I LOVE Olive 😍

As names, yes of course they are ok. But remember as well as being twins they will be individuals. I wonder if they will grow up enjoying being a pair of matching fruits? I also personally dislike the double alliteration. Hopefully your surname doesn’t begin with H or she’ll have OOH!

As some have suggested I’d soften it by swapping the middles to Clementine Odette and Olive Catherine, or I’d go for Clementine and Olivia, or use the “double fruit” for middle name theme and have Catherine and Odette first.

I agree.

I like Clementine, am not particularly fond of Olive, but it's perfectly ok on it's own.

But then you are adding not one but two layers of gimmick: firstly the alliterative OO and CC, and then the pair of fruits "theme."

I'm afraid I just don't think its fair. They are real individuals and don't deserve to be packaged like the Two Ronnies or the branding for a Smoothie Company.

Clemmie and Odie sounds like the description of some particularly whiffy items in a laundry basket; "They are all clemmy and odie."

I would really hesitate if I were you.

Yes to this.

Seconding (or thirding(?)) this.
Or swap about- Catherine Olive and Odette Clementine

Tryagain26 · 30/01/2026 14:01

I think they are lovely. There is nothing bad about them at all. I wouldn't immediately recognise them as both fruit names either
The only thing I might consider would be swapping the middle names around but it's not important and I assume you want them both to have a French name and a non french name so I can see why you want them to be as in your post.

I like this idea. Everything is still in there, it is just presented more elegantly.

Can I suggest Ettie as a nn for Odette?

QuinceTamarillo · 30/01/2026 14:19

Ideally all children would have fruit names.

floppybit · 30/01/2026 14:20

I love these names together!! Gorgeous!

VacayDreamer · 30/01/2026 14:29

Matching fruit names? Now I’ve heard everything!

but actually they are nice names, congrats on the twins you are very lucky!

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 30/01/2026 14:34

I don’t love the alliteration running through both names but I like the Christian names otherwise.

Satsuma Susan and Caper-berry Claire
Tangerine Tanya and Anchovy Annabella

Does anyone else remember Strawberry Shortcake? And Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Tart and friends?

ShetlandishMum · 30/01/2026 15:07

Trying a bit too hard.

WhatAreYouDoingSundayBaby · 30/01/2026 15:13

Tbh I think Olive is a well-enough-used name in it's own right for people's minds not to automatically go to the fruit, I'm not sure I'd immediately make the connection myself.

I love the name Odette though, so pretty, so personally I'd go with Clementine and Odette.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 30/01/2026 15:18

I prefer the middle names as first names. Clementine and Olive both sound ugly to me.

Dora33 · 30/01/2026 15:25

Siblings who both have fruit names is a bit gimmicky. Twins even more so.
I think olive or Olivia and odette separately are good. I think Olivia is a much nicer name than olive.

wishingonastar101 · 30/01/2026 15:30

Melany?

user2848502016 · 30/01/2026 15:37

I’m not keen on them together personally, I would go for Odette Olive - Clementine and Odette sound lovely together

I like Clementine and Odette together op. They both have that French feel (and less of a fruit-bowl feel!)

Incidentally, Clementine was a (very pretty) name before it was a fruit. It isn't as "fruity" as, say, Apple or Banana.

Claudiasboots · 30/01/2026 15:46

Beautiful names. I don’t think the initials OO and CC are a negative. No one uses middle names in the U.K. so it’s just a non-issue. I wouldn’t have made the fruit connection myself, but as so many others have I would swap Olive to a middle name. Clementine and Odette work well together.

Of course people use middle names in the UK! And initials generally

ShawnaMacallister · 30/01/2026 16:09

I think they are a lot. Clementine Catherine is a lot of syllables. Odette is a bit pretentious. The alliteration is a lot. Put them all together and it's a lot of a lot.

AutumnAllTheWay · 30/01/2026 16:15

I love them both, and as a set. Beautiful.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 30/01/2026 16:18

I feel sorry for Olive.

Clementine is lovely but Olive is extremely bleurgh.
