Im having twins, two girls and were thinking Clementine Catherine and Olive Odette. We like the matching fruit names, and Odette and Clementine both have French origin. Are they okay names?

*Typo in the post. I meant Tell me my kids names arent going to be that bad

Switch the middle names around
The alliteration is too much, you're trying too hard to match 'twin' names, but they're 2 different people

Pettenell · 30/01/2026 23:27

Clementine is wonderful, but I don't like Olive, so if I were the twin called Olive I'd feel I had the raw end of the deal. Clementine and Odette would be fantastic.
To rearrange, I'd use Clementine Olive and Odette Catherine, but that doesn't evenly distribute the fruit, which is the whole point.

But to answer your question, no, they are not going to be that bad.

Oh that’s so sweet, if you go on to have a bigger family their sisters could be Peaches and Strawberry

What about Dragonfruit and Banana?

Odette and Catherine and Clementine are lovely, Olive is not.

Better to have
Odette Catherine
Clementine Olivia

I absolutely agree with this.

Flitteryflatteryflips · 31/01/2026 00:04

I absolutely agree with this.

Me too .

olive is just not a pretty name.
odette and Otti are.

DearDenimEagle · 31/01/2026 00:14

Olive Oyl comes to mind..or an olive in plumbing…Olivia is better for me but your kid , Clementine ..Winston Churchill comes to mind and I prefer satsumas, but your kids your choice . I’d not pick any of those tbh but I’m not mum to girls …you do you . The girls will choose versions for themselves, eventually

DearDenimEagle · 31/01/2026 00:17

I do like Odette..classy

MsSmartShoes · 31/01/2026 00:19

All of the names are lovely in any combination.

LivingTheDreamish · 31/01/2026 02:56

I like all the names individually but I do think you may live to regret Clementine and Olive (and they may not thank you either). It's just a bit twee.

Clementine and Odette perhaps?

Haribosweets · 31/01/2026 03:04

Sorry but awful for first names. Have fruit names as middle but not first. Olivia and Catherine are good alternate as first. Just think when they are older and schools etc.

Wallywobbles · 31/01/2026 05:44

I like Cici and Olivia as Nn. Not wild about Olive (oil).

bexandthebeans · 31/01/2026 06:37

I agree with the above it’s a bit matching for twins. Both lovely names but maybe not together. Though Clementine and Odette sounds great.
Have you thought about Ottilie and Clementine?
We have a Clemence and a Margot. Both French but not matching. Also our Clemence is 100% Clemmie most of the time!

PersephoneParlormaid · 31/01/2026 06:38

I prefer Odette to Olive.

EatingHealthy · 31/01/2026 06:41

I wouldn't use Clementine as a first name. Whilst it's lovely in full (and therefore nice as a middle name) the obvious nickname - Clemmy just sounds too much like Clammy to me.

I agree with others that two fruit names is too twee for twins. I'd switch out one of the names as well to add another letter or at very least number of syllables into the mix, because otherwise whatever combination you use they're going to sound too matchy matchy and like something out of a nursery rhyme.

JuliettaCaeser · 31/01/2026 06:45

Like others I far prefer Odette to Olive. Classy and less over used,

mathanxiety · 31/01/2026 06:56

Olive is very drab compared to Clementine, imo, and the double fruit theme isn't great for twins.

I'd keep Clementine Catherine and choose another first and middle name for the other twin.

A nature name that isn't a fruit might be nicer/ less matchy. I like the first and middle name alliteration, so I'd stick with that.

Ivy Isobel
Hazel Hermione
Willow Winona
Rosemary Rhiannon
Violet Vivienne
Iris Imogen

Think the combo quirky and normal within an individuals name is what’s making it seem a bit weird. Individually all 4 names are fine.

Olive Odette sounds a bit like a cartoon character or superhero. If you’ve got a really boring surname though will be fine, like, Olive Odette Williams.

Personally never liked the name clementine, as I literally think of the fruit and Christmas. I don’t dislike Christmas, just literally think of a food item and not a person. Someone has been named an object. Weirdly I don’t feel this name about Olive! For that one I think of Popeye!

Anyway, my point is the names are fine and they’re your babies so pick something you like. Everyone always has an opinion even on ‘normal’ names.

Koalatea13 · 31/01/2026 07:17

I personally don't like them, but they're your kids. I echo the point someone else made - imagine shouting both the names out together at the park. Sorry, but I'd judge 😅 but if you don't care about that then go for it

CyanDeer · 31/01/2026 07:26

I think Clementine and Olive are perfectly nice names.

Catherine also nice but too long as a middle name after Clementine, I’d be tempted to go something like Clementine Rose or something else that is short with one syllable.

Sorry but I’m not keen on Odette.
x

AgnesMcDoo · 31/01/2026 07:31

Separately great but don’t go for 2 fruit names. And switch Olive with Odette

Jk987 · 31/01/2026 07:46

Not Olive 🫒 Makes me think salty, dull coloured, odd tasting. Olivia yes.

3beastiesandme · 31/01/2026 07:54

Remember you are naming adults. Personally I hate matchy names for twins. The are individuals so name them as individuals not a pair.

Alice65475 · 31/01/2026 08:04

I’m an identical twin, and I’m so glad my parents did as much as they could to give us our own identities (asked to put us in separate classes at school etc). There were twin boys the year below us called Oliver and Alexander, but everyone called them Olly and Ally and they always were referred to as a pair - I would have hated that!

edited to answer your question - love the names, but too much to both be fruits

SouthernNights59 · 31/01/2026 08:16

MyCatPrefersPeaches · 30/01/2026 12:13

I personally wouldn’t alliterate them and would make them mirror names, eg Olive Catherine and Clementine Odette. I think it could sound gimmicky for twins to have alliterative names.

I agree with this, although it's your choice, you name them what you want OP. They are both pretty names.

Why are they awful? Both Olive and Clementine are perfectly nice first names. Olivia is far too common for my liking.
