Hi everyone,
Our little girl was born on Thursday and we still don’t have a name!! We have a shortlist but I don’t know if they are just overdone and boring or if they are just classic, timeless options. Please can we have your opinions on our list and any others you think might suit!

Charlotte
Emma
Beatrix
Naomi

Thank you x

Love Naomi, like Charlotte, dislike Beatrix and Emma but would not call Beatrix a safe name - I work in childcare and have never met one!

YenSon · 25/01/2026 15:09

I found it really hard to pick baby names as a teacher!

Those names are lovely and whilst they are ‘safe’ names they are not particularly common where I live/teach.

in 26 years of teaching in primary I have only ever taught or known a handful of Emma’s and Charlottes. I’ve known 2 Naomi’s (one a childhood friend and one a current parent of a child). I’ve never known a Beatrix or taught one.

Emma is my favourite- my Great Grandma’s name and I would have chosen either that, or my husband’s grandma’s name (Martha) should I have had girls. I stayed ‘safe’ with my boys’ names and they were named after grandparents/ great grandparents too.

Go with which one feels like it suits your baby. Maybe look into the meanings of each, and which one has the closest affinity to your child.

Xcxlxn · 25/01/2026 16:38

I’m a Charlotte and have always liked my name. It was probably the most popular name in my year and that didn’t bother me, if that is any help! Also it never got shortened no one ever called me Charlie or Lottie until my first job as an adult and randomly there I became Charlie

Gahr · 25/01/2026 16:50

I love them all, with the possible exception of Beatrix. I prefer Beatrice, but that's just my personal taste. Others in the same vein are Alice (my favourite girl's name of all time) Lucy, Celia, and Anabelle or Anabella. Also Madeleine is lovely.

ERthree · 25/01/2026 16:52

Congratulations on you new baby girl, well done Mum x Two of my granddaughters names are on your list. Really lovely names. One of my little loves was originally to be named Tilbury if she was a boy, so glad she was a girl x

mumnosbest · 25/01/2026 17:10

I think they're all beautiful so choose the one you think suits her best. My personal favourite is Emma. As a teacher I have taught a few Charlottes, 1 Emma, 1 Naomi and no Beatrix since 2000 so none are 'over done'.

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all the opinions and insights.
We have settled on Naomi Charlotte for our little girl x

Beautiful! Congratulations!

Swissmeringue · 25/01/2026 17:38

Lovely, classic names that won't hold them back in later life. Congratulations on your arrival op!

My DD is Rosalind (nn Rosie)

Angelil · 25/01/2026 17:54

edited as I should have RTFT and now see you have chosen a name! Congratulations 🥳

Komododragonchocolatecoin · 25/01/2026 18:46

Naomi for sure x

Silverbirchleaf · 25/01/2026 18:47

You’ve chosen a lovely name.

LonelyMom123 · 25/01/2026 19:22

Beautiful name x

LassitersLegend · 25/01/2026 19:53

I vote for Emma.
Charlotte is also a lovely name. Why not try a name out a day and see which suits or sticks with you.
I've just seen you've chosen the name, lovely

SP2024 · 25/01/2026 20:16

Beatrix is great (and on my mythical girls name list). I like Charlotte too especially shortened to Lottie. Emma is a bit boring. Much prefer Anna. Naomi is a name I’ve never warmed to, but is perfectly fine and not that common.

Farr85 · 25/01/2026 20:23

All beautiful names. If I had to pick one it would be Naomi

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 25/01/2026 21:27

Think how they'll be shortened, you'd need to be happy with Lottie and Charlie for Charlotte. Our child is a Beatrix and normally just Bea or Beabee (which I love and really suits her) but if you go with Beatrix then she'll probably end up a Bea too. Emma and Naomi get shortened less, I can imagine Nomi or Mimi for Naomi maybe, Em is quite dull... (I love a cute nickname so went with names that come with options for all my children so they can personalise them a bit)

FringeTime · 25/01/2026 22:06

Love Charlotte 💛

LivingTheDreamish · 26/01/2026 01:48

Beautiful name, congratulations 💕

PorridgeAndSyrup · 26/01/2026 13:43

“Safe” also equals classic, timeless, respectable and with a history behind them. Any one of those is lovely.

AuraBora · 26/01/2026 13:48

I like the name Charlotte (and Lottie as a nickname is lovely) however I do know loads of little ones called Charlotte (my kids are 8 and 4 and there are lots in both those age groups.
I think Beatrix is lovely - don't kno1 any round here. Bee/Bea as short versions also sweet.
Not so keen on Naomi or Emma but of course it's up to you. Don't know any little ones round here- think of them as names of ny generation (early 40s)
Congratulations on your baby girl!

AuraBora · 26/01/2026 13:49

Oh just seen your update!

Whatthefork1 · 26/01/2026 14:02

Personally I don’t like Emma, but I do like Charlotte, which is a firm classic but not that popular anymore.

Not a fan of Beatrix, but that’s just my opinion, again it is a classic / old name. Naomi is nice and again I don’t hear of many!

But what do I know, we called our daughter Olivia and then found out it was the number one name for that year in the UK, however She is 4 and I haven’t met any other Olivia’s her age at all yet. I only know two and they are both my age.

Emanwenym · 26/01/2026 14:07

@Whatthefork1 , Charlotte is still popular.
