Hi everyone,
Our little girl was born on Thursday and we still don’t have a name!! We have a shortlist but I don’t know if they are just overdone and boring or if they are just classic, timeless options. Please can we have your opinions on our list and any others you think might suit!

Charlotte
Emma
Beatrix
Naomi

Thank you x

All lovely names - beautiful and classic.

Beatrix is my favourite girls' name. Perfect meaning, elegant sound, everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it, but it's nevertheless quite rare.

CatsNdogs77 · 24/01/2026 20:38

I have a Naomi. We pronounce (nay-o-me) the amount of people who call her ( ni-o-me) including school staff and friends parents and even some relatives. I know she finds it very annoying.

tedibear · 24/01/2026 20:44

Charlotte and Emma are lovely. I’d prob lean more towards Charlotte.

Laplandsnow · 24/01/2026 20:48

Well I don’t think it matters what anyone thinks. It’s more telling that you’re asking and it’s on your mind that your choices could be deemed boring and safe.
Will you regret it in the future? Do you have any other less common names you would consider?

We chose a name that isn’t common/popular and everyone has commented on how lovely and different it is (it’s not bonkers!) but we did have some ‘safer’ names on our list such as Imogen and Sofia which are both lovely but I’d have regretted giving my daughter a safe name

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 24/01/2026 20:52

All lovely!

LivingTheDreamish · 24/01/2026 23:18

Congratulations! The only one that might fit the boring and overdone label is Charlotte. But it's still a good name!

Emma is gorgeous, I think I'd go for that but Naomi and Beatrix are both more unusual and rather nice. Prefer the nn potential of Beatrix (Bea/Trixie).

Giraffehaver · 24/01/2026 23:19

I love all of them especially Emma. Haven't met a little Emma for years

rainingsnoring · 25/01/2026 06:23

It doesn't matter whether anyone else thinks your names are over done and boring. They are all lovely, timeless classics imo. Charlotte has been v popular for some time. The others less so. I like Naomi very much but it can be pronounced two ways which may be annoying.

All lovely.
Charlotte, Emma, Beatrix and Naomi are timeless.

Naomi Charlotte is a great combination.

This is a nice combo!

Reallyneedsaholiday · 25/01/2026 13:47

I dont think they're "boring" names, but as you asked for other suggestions
Felicity
Abigail
Esther

PoppySaidYesIKnow · 25/01/2026 13:48

Emma and Charlotte would be my shortlist.

PersephoneParlormaid · 25/01/2026 13:50

I like more traditional names like Emma, Sophie, Charlotte. I met a Heidi recently and think that’s nice too.

Jok77 · 25/01/2026 13:59

Congratulations! They're all beautiful, timeless names. I haven't taught a Naomi or Beatrix in 27 years as a Primary School teacher! And haven't taught a baby Charlotte or Emma in quite a while -they would be 10 or 11 now! Beatrix Naomi sounds delightful to me. Whichever name you choose, be assured that it will be just perfect.

Emmz1510 · 25/01/2026 14:02

Not boring at all, I like all of them, especially Emma as I’m an Emma!

sparklyblueberry2 · 25/01/2026 14:03

I’m a Charlotte but never a Charlie or a Lottie so not everyone with long names with get shortened.

with Emma, there are a lot of Emma’s, Emily’s, Emmie’s, Emilia’s out there.

Naomi is a beautiful name, popular and timeless too.

I love Beatrix, Bea for short. Bit different to Beatrice.

I think as time goes on, you will realise which name you love most. My son didn’t have his name for 6days and eventually only one name stood out!

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 25/01/2026 14:18

I think I'd go for Beatrix as it's a classic but not over-used.

Congratulations by the way!

SazKaka · 25/01/2026 15:01

Born on Thursday, not even a week old yet 😍 Congratulations 🎉

There is no hurry to name your daughter.

Try out the different names and see if they suit her (maybe she had a nickname when you were expecting her, which you could use until you choose?)

We took a while to name one of our daughters, nothing was quite right, but we found a name and middle name we loved and went well together with our surname.

It’s quite nice announcing the names you have chosen once people have had the excitement of the birth too!

Vixenlover · 25/01/2026 15:04

All your chosen names are beautiful. Beatrix is possibly the least safe option. Charlotte is my favourite.

MsSquiz · 25/01/2026 15:05

I’m biased as we have a Charlotte, but I just adore the name. I always expected her to be a Lottie, but she has never gone by Lottie yet. She may well be known as Charlie when she’s older.

she’s in year 1 and has never had another Charlotte in her class or year at nursery or school

BendicksAddict · 25/01/2026 15:06

Boring AF.

You wanted an opinion. This child will be in school with children going by far more interesting cross-cultural names. They are real insipid early 80s names. Sorry
