Family name. I love it. What do people think? Do you know any young Nina’s? What type of person does it make you think of? Is it dated/classic/on trend?

I love it. Very cool and sophisticated. And yes, it's a classic.

ChequeredSquares · 21/01/2026 06:46

I know two - a 4 year old and 1 year old. Lovely name.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 21/01/2026 06:46

I really like it.

IceStationZebra · 21/01/2026 06:48

Gorgeous. It was on my list for a girl and I know a couple of older children with that name.

Ontheflipside · 21/01/2026 06:55

I had a "Nina" last year and I absolutely love it. We always get compliments on her name 😊

Jumpeduppantrygirl · 21/01/2026 07:03

Absolutely love it. Bizarrely, commented to someone the other day that I would use the name if I was to have another daughter.

NeedToKnow101 · 21/01/2026 07:04

I love it. Cute for a child and classic and elegant for a woman.

FatFoxie · 21/01/2026 07:10

I like it too. Would put it in the same box as Stella and Lara - sassy names for confident women who mean business.

landlordhell · 21/01/2026 07:11

Beautiful. I have an 8 year old niece called Nina in Australia.

I LOVE meeting little Stellas!

landlordhell · 21/01/2026 07:12

Also love Lara/ Zara and Lana.

It's okay, but to me it's a tad boring. It's right on trend. Being on trend is either great or annoying, depending on your point of view. Nina fits right in with the short 2 syllable 'a' ending names that are a currently popular style, eg Mia Maya, Lila, Isla, Ella, Mila, Ada, Nova, Layla, Luna, Thea, Lola, Freya, Rosa, Eva etc - which are in the top 100 names.

101SpottyDogs · 21/01/2026 07:24

I know three Ninas, a three year old, a twenty four year old and a forty two year old. Beautiful, classic name imo.

CarlaLemarchant · 21/01/2026 07:27

It was on my list for DD 11 years ago. Didn’t go with it as DH wasn’t keen but I love it.

scienceteachersarefun · 21/01/2026 07:31

Absolutely love it. Classy, easy to spell, elegant.

Edited

Some of these names feel transient on trend to me eg Luna, Nova, Lila, Lola.

Nina to my mind is much more classic due to centuries of use across Russia, Spain etc.

I agree. Nina is quite different, it's been around far longer. It's not one of these modern "ditsy" names which will date.
I know a Nina in her 30s and one in her 80s!
I think it's a classic.

KrimboBell · 21/01/2026 07:51

My daughter came a month early and was was born on 9th of 9th 1990 so we gave her Nina as her middle name having already decided her first name. I couldn’t bring myself to have it as Nine though I probably would now.

LlynTegid · 21/01/2026 07:52

I don't know any young girl or woman called Nina. It is also long enough that almost no-one will think of a 1980s song that referred to 'Had a love affair with Nina, in the back of my Cortina'.

PennyPencils · 21/01/2026 07:57

I love it too. I think of Diane Keaton in Father of the Bride and what a nice name for a more mature lady as well as young.

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/01/2026 08:00

Beautiful name.

CharlotteFlax · 21/01/2026 12:25

It's a name that doesn't age or date, I reckon. Classic enough for everyone to know it but not used enough for there to be several in each school year.

i know a nine year old Nina and she's great!

DrEmilyCrabtree · 21/01/2026 13:12

I think its a lovely name. No idea which song a pp is referring to, but the only one I know is 'Nina, Pretty ballerina' by Abba, which I loved as a child (which isn't well known enough to be sung now anyway)

SharpGoldWriter · 21/01/2026 18:49

Beautiful! It was on our list and I still love it!

annmarie6 · 21/01/2026 18:50

I love it
