Thoughts on Nina?

Family name. I love it. What do people think? Do you know any young Nina’s? What type of person does it make you think of? Is it dated/classic/on trend?

Makes me think of a siren tbh 🙈

I know lots of Ninas and Niinas. Most in their 50s.

Love Nina. It’s lovely, classic, rare ish.

I really like it! It's one of those names that everybody knows, but you aren't falling over them in real life. I used to teach a little Nina, and she was a joy, as was her friend Rosa!

It reminds me of singers Nina Simone and Nina Nesbitt.

I don't see it as a classic name at all. It's a diminutive in Russia, I believe, short for Antonina, but it hasn't been used enough in the UK to be considered a classic here. I don't see it as a strong name, I suppose it's quite sweet for a small child (in Spanish it literally means 'little girl' but there isn't much substance to it, it feels like it should be short for something. I like that it's a truly international name, that's a good thing, but I guess it's just not my style.

I worked with a Nina once ..,she will be around 60 now….and my friend has a DD called Nina age 25…never come across another one and I worked in children’s community health for years and saw every name going ….the good…the bad ….the boring and the fuckin ridiculous

Girl in Spanish is niña, ñ isn’t the same letter so it isn’t the same word.

I work with two (both in their 30s), plus it’s my 22yo cousin’s nickname (Janina) and a friend’s 85yo grandmother’s nickname (Georgina).

I thought it was Tina in the back of the cortina! I’ll have to listen again. I love Nina. There was one of DD classmates who would be in her early 20s, and I worked with one who would be about 60 now. Otherwise have not come across it.

It was definitely Nina in the back of his Cortina, a seasoned up hyena, could not have been more obscener.

The only Nina I knew would be in her sixties and her name was an abbreviation of her actual name Helena. As well as the other well known Ninas already mentioned there was also the author Nina Bawden.

Loved Nina Bawden’s books as a kid! Great name.

I know a 45 year old called Nina and I love the name. I’ve loved it since “99 red balloons” but I think hers was spelt differently ☺️

That said, I prefer Nora, just to throw another idea into the mix...

Oh I don’t know, my great, great grandmother was called Nina, she was born in 1879, a fierce Scottish lady by all accounts.
I think it’s a sweet name for a child, an elegant name for an adult.
