Thoughts on Jessamy (Jess-a-me). It's 17th Century variation on Jasmine and Jessamine.

absolutely not

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 12/01/2026 15:10

First thought, honestly.... is It's not a real name / it's a made up American name.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 12/01/2026 15:10

Just no.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 12/01/2026 15:11

I quite like it. Sounds artsy.

TulipTuesday · 12/01/2026 15:11

Sounds like a name the Duggar family would use.

AmberSpy · 12/01/2026 15:12

The child will have a lifetime of being asked "is it Jessica/Jessie/Jesse/Jeremy?" I'd avoid.

SapphireSwan · 12/01/2026 15:12

Lovely name. It is very real, but quite old fashioned. I read a book at school with a Jessamy as the main character and loved it. https://www.goodreads.com Jessamy by Barbara Sleigh Jessamy book

LighthouseLED · 12/01/2026 15:12

I quite like it, although would probably have spelled it Jessame, as that’s how I’ve seen it written before.

FerrisWheelsandLilacs · 12/01/2026 15:14

It’s sort of like JessAmy… if I was considering it I’d probably just go for Jessamine instead which sound almost identical.

Thirdchildjoy · 12/01/2026 15:32

My initial reaction was it sounded like something out of "Cats".

Bloodyscarymary · 12/01/2026 15:34

Jessamine is much nicer and has the same sound, so why not use that?

HumphreyCobblers · 12/01/2026 15:34

Frederica by Georgette Heyer has a lovely Jessamy character, so it gets a thumbs up from me.

Shmee1988 · 12/01/2026 15:35

No. Just no. Sounds like 'jizz on me'.... her teenage years will be dreadful.

centaury · 12/01/2026 15:37

I really like it! I think it has a nice sound, looks good written down and is easy to read and pronounce.

TwinklyWrinkly · 12/01/2026 15:44

I'll be honest, it might be a real name, but to me it sounds like someone has mashed Jessica and Jeremy together so they had a name no matter what sex they had. Or like when they mash mum and dad's name together because they think it's cute and yooneek!

Friolero · 12/01/2026 15:45

I really like it. It’s definitely a real name, I came across it years ago and was considering it when pregnant with DS (before I knew he was a boy!).

Fends · 12/01/2026 15:47

Jessamy Clarkson?

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/01/2026 15:48

I really like it and with that spelling. Interesting but not crazy out there. Some people not having heard of it doesn’t make it not a real name!

BigDeepBreaths · 12/01/2026 15:48

If Jeremy Hunt and Amy Childs had a lovechild….?

It would belike calling a baby Bennifer.

Nope

Yes, an old fashioned and unusual boy name, and he was a lovely character. Always have a soft spot for Jessamy when I read it.

(Unlike blooming Charis, the whingebag, and useless bloody Harry)

mateysmum · 12/01/2026 15:59

The first thought that came to my mind is that it's the name of a place in Burma and a battle that took place there in WW2.
I happen to know about it because a relative of a friend was involved.

The Battles of Jessami & Kharasom - Kohima Museum - York

Heroic stands by 1st Assam Regiment at the Battles of Jessami & Kharasom caused crucial delays to the Japanese advance on Kohima.

Edited

It’s definitely a name. One of the Telegraph editors a decade or so ago was called Jessamy.

Overtheatlantic · 12/01/2026 16:01

When your mom is Jessica and your dad is Jeremy? Noooooooo!

boy2026 · 12/01/2026 16:03

I think it’s really pretty and definitely a real name.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/01/2026 16:04

Please don't call your child...... or pet Jessamy.
