Ottilie, Octavia...thoughts on these please, and what else? I don't want anything made up, or too modern, or too popular, however pretty (eg Olivia).

I love Orla and came across quite a few in Ireland about 20 years ago (not sure how popular there now)

Thanks people. Orla is v pretty but I know of two babies of my acquaintance called Orla already so that's kind of out. No one like Ottilie or Octavia? Oenone is a great one and a new one to me, but I'd worry about the child suffering a life of mispronunciation. Maybe a good middle name for someone. Keep 'em coming, I appreciate it.

Here in France I know people (adults and children) called:

Océane
Orianne
Ophélie
Olympe
Odile
Odette

bundle · 12/06/2008 10:57

I know a lovely woman called Olive

TigerFeet · 12/06/2008 10:57

I love Ottilie

LadyThompson · 12/06/2008 10:58

Ooh, some GORGEOUS French ones there. Odile is great, and I like the way Olympe looks. And Ottoline. Wow, didn't know Ottilie was getting popular, that's interesting.

I think Ottilie is a very pretty sound, but I do think of water otters (no bad thing - they're adorable) and I think Tili is a charming nickname.

Octavia could come across as a little pompous (like Venetia and Lucretia and other old Latin names) although it is also quite pretty.

CarGirl · 12/06/2008 10:59

Def Ophelia its lovely, I called my octopuss that I made when I was 8 Ophelia, would love to have another dd to use it.
