Sheila, Lorraine or Glinda?

I know these names are unconventional but I was thinking they might be nice. I was originally going to go for Sheila or Lorraine (Lorrie for short) but after watching Wicked I’m thinking maybe Glinda would be fun!

None of them! All awful

Silverbirchleaf · 29/12/2025 21:01

First post nails it (with apologies to mn-betters with these names)

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 29/12/2025 21:02

Just in case this is not a complete wind-up, please remember that you are naming a person, not a kitten, not a bin lorry and not a middle-aged women from 1979

Comedycook · 29/12/2025 21:03

Yabu

sprigatito · 29/12/2025 21:03

No.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 29/12/2025 21:04

Lorraine best of the three

Helpwithdivorce · 29/12/2025 21:04

It can’t be Glinda it would have to be Galinda

romeoandjulie · 29/12/2025 21:05

All absolutely terrible.

Sleepasaurus · 29/12/2025 21:05

For a human?

But this isn’t on the AIBU topic?

Sheila is the worst name out there for me. Even among the mass revival of Irish names Sheila has thankfully never entered the fray. The only reason it lingers at all is as a family name. Just no.

estrogone · 29/12/2025 21:07

My ILs have an 85 year old Lorraine (Lolly) and an 82 year old Sheila.

Glinda is a witch. The end.

PolyVagalNerve · 29/12/2025 21:07

lol !!
add Fanny to the list ?

”not a bin lorry” 😂 😂 😂

GrandHighPoohbah · 29/12/2025 21:08

I honestly thought from the title this was going to be a "help me name the middle aged woman in the story I'm writing" kind of thread.

SaveYourMoneyAndStopMakingMeCry · 29/12/2025 21:09

Absolutely not. Even Maud and Gertrude are better than those!

Chocolatebuttonanyone · 29/12/2025 21:10

How about Mavis? Or Lavinia?

LighthouseLED · 29/12/2025 21:10

Lorraine is the best of the three but I’d think of something else - there are plenty of names out there.

arcticpandas · 29/12/2025 21:10

OK if you live in a small town in Alabama. Otherwise no.

Smartiepants79 · 29/12/2025 21:11

For the love of god, please not Glinda. It’s like naming your child Cinderella or Tinkerbel.
The other two are very dated and not that pretty.
Laurie or Lauren is nicer.

And yet, this is a time where you probably still need to hear YABU regardless...Yikes...

boogietrapps · 29/12/2025 21:11

Sheila!! My favourite girls name but I could never convince DH, we would’ve spelled it Síle (the Irish way). It’s flipping gorgeous.

Joeninety · 29/12/2025 21:11

How about Jo ?

ShetlandishMum · 29/12/2025 21:12

No.

Some posts you have no choice, you are just clearly being unreasonable.

I think Lorraine is the best out of the three Glinda will be like all those poor children who were named after Game of Thrones characters.
