Alternative to 'Ellie' i.e. 'Ayllie' Aellee' or 'Aelly'

I'm wondering if any of you lovely ladies could help? Our little girl is due early next year and my partner and I still can't decide on which alternative spelling for 'Ellie' we would like. I'm drawn to either 'Ayllie' or 'Aellee'. Any kind thoughts on it would be appreciated :)

I know this is a wind up, but my daughter has a friend called Aurelia who goes by Ellie. Serious option!

Hey @HushaBabbee- you could actually go with Allelujah on the birth certificate, Allie as a nickname, it’s a bit more modern and culturally diverse than Alison.

OR - keep Ellie but change the surname to Edems? Or Edam?

Ellie Edam has lovely alliteration nice (just watch out for the mean kids calling her Smelly Edam…)

I think that's how the French often spell it as well, after Queen Alienor of Aquitaine. (Well, my French friend did anyway).

Nothing is going to sound like Ellie if it starts with an A.

As someone who has to spell my surname all the fucking time, do not inflict this nonsense on your daughter. It is she, not you, who will have to live with the consequences of your "kewl" spelling.

Ellie or a different name altogether.

I’m a teacher and I had a pupil who’s name on the register was Elle, so first day of term I called her name out as ‘El’ and she corrected me that it was pronounced Ellie. Poor girl will have to spent her whole life doing that.

I see someone has already suggested it, but my first thought was Ailie - which in Scotland is sometimes pronounced like Ellie, maybe with a bit longer ehh - and can be a short form of Aileen or A(i)lison as well as a form of Eilidh.

Another way to go is a name starting with A which has El/Ellie as a logical "known as"/every day shortening - e.g., Adela, Adelaide, Adele, Amela, Angelica, Angelina, Anneli, Annelise, Arabel(la), Araceli, Ariel/Ariella/Arielle...

What about Anneli, Finnish equivalent of Anna.

Someone will just think you couldn’t spell. Stay within standard spelling norms.
