Alternative to 'Ellie' i.e. 'Ayllie' Aellee' or 'Aelly'

I'm wondering if any of you lovely ladies could help? Our little girl is due early next year and my partner and I still can't decide on which alternative spelling for 'Ellie' we would like. I'm drawn to either 'Ayllie' or 'Aellee'. Any kind thoughts on it would be appreciated :)

But the letter A doesn’t make the same sound. To have the right el sound it needs to start with an E.

Why do you want alliteration? If it matters to you go with a name that naturally starts with an A.

Fucking nuts

Hey come on its 21st century! its just an alternative to 'Ellie' something a bit culturally diversive

What's 'culturally diversive' about excessive vowel usage?

Mydahliasareshit · 13/12/2025 20:00

Angelica. You can call her whatever nickname you want.
Think of your child's future choices in life for goodness sake.

Excellent! Made me laugh out loud!

FrostyMorn · 13/12/2025 20:01

Alison and shorten to Allie.

CamelToeSniffa · 13/12/2025 20:02

We have an Ellie but I guess we're not very culturally diversive 🤣

Allie, with Alison on the birth certificate
Thanks for that, thinking that the sensible route now is probably 'Allie'💖

tinytemper66 · 13/12/2025 20:11

Do you love your baby?

Dogmum1983 · 13/12/2025 20:11

Poor child .. she has a lifetime of craziness to come ..

unless you’re now gonna say the baby is actually going to be a boy 🤣

CamelToeSniffa · 13/12/2025 20:13

If you don't like LE what about L-O-Eez. Or Loo Easer? Or Loo Seat, bit like Lucy but more diversinated?? Or Allison-Rafferty India Crumpet-Tiddlesworth AL-E for short?

snugasabug75 · 13/12/2025 20:13

Ayllie or Aellee changes the sound from Ellie.

She will look like she had parents who were uneducated and could not spell...:

Hey Fluffy, there's an over usage of 3 vowels is 'Ellie'😂

Don't be so stupid.
You are naming a real person.
Grow up.

Hallelujah.

I will just say that Alienor is a Medieval alternative spelling of the name Elinor/Eleanor (as in Elinor of Aquitaine) - so it would be a ‘real’ spelling, rather than a made up one, and could still be shortened to Allie or Ellie.

No that's a proper use of vowels in an actual real name.

Jelly with a silent J?

This made me laugh!
OP you are being ridiculous. When people have names that are spelt differently, people just assume they have parents who can’t spell or are chavs.
Don't set your daughter up for a lifetime of having to spell her name out. She will not thank you for it.

Thanks for this! yes I know even the word 'English' and 'England' were spelt 'Aenglish' and 'Aengland' in Medieval times😊

Do you mean the Gaelic name Eilidh? It can also be spelled (subject to other mumsnet users' strong feelings on it) Ailidh, Ailie, or Eily.
Aellee is... not going to be a name you will find on a souvenir pen.
ooh I like 'Ailidh' and 'Ailie'. Thanks for that!💖

Full name Los Angeles - shortened to LA. Job done.
