Baby girl name - Please help - Shortlist - 5 names to choose from

Which one would you choose out of the following:

  1. Aliki
  2. Kelly
  3. Kyveli
  4. Clelia
  5. Vicky

I know they sound probably a weird selection of names, but we are not British (although we are living in the UK) and we are trying to honour family relatives and to choose a name that works in both our origin country and the UK.

I get that these names could all be a second name and to call the child with another more mainstream name, but this is not an option.

If you could please rank them, it would help a lot :) Thanks

  1. Vicky - Victoria is lovely
  2. Clelia - ok
  3. Kelly - surname. 1970s name. Dated.
  4. Aliki - too out there
  5. Kyveli - too out there

I'm guessing Greek heritage. Surely there are nicer names you could choose.

LadyDanburysHat · 08/12/2025 13:47
  1. Aliki - I quite like this.
  2. Kelly - Very 1970s, sounds like someone in their 40s or 50s
  3. Kyveli - Okay
  4. Clelia - Doesn't roll off the tongue and will be misread as Celia
  5. Vicky - If short for Victoria then okay
Enko · 08/12/2025 13:50
  1. 1 Aliki. I think this will translate i to English well and it sounds beautiful
  2. 2 Kyveli. I just like this
  3. 3 Kelly. Pretty normal British name nothing for or against for me
  4. 4 Clelia. I have to agree it will be misread as Celia
  5. 5. Vicky. I just dont care for this or Victoria I find it dull.
SeaAndStars · 08/12/2025 13:54

Aliki - Too like alkali. A sister for Acid
Kelly - Brook, Osborne etc. A name from a recent but past era.
Kyveli - Norwegian protein yoghurt
Clelia - STD
Vicky - Pollard.

None for me, sorry.

I like Clelia the best

fairycupcakes · 08/12/2025 14:16
  1. Aliki - sorry I read this Alki at first (not great, alcoholic etc)
  2. Kelly - really dated
  3. Kyveli - probably the best one on the list.
  4. Clelia - I don’t think this looks or sounds nice and likely get misread as Celia
  5. Vicky - really dated

sorry OP, probably not helpful at all. What is your heritage? I’m sure there are many names that could work x

LauraChant · 08/12/2025 14:18
  1. Aliki
  2. Vicky
  3. Kyveli
  4. Kelly
  5. Clelia (it sounds like someone saying Celia really awkwardly)
HangryBrickShark · 08/12/2025 14:23

Kyveli

Berlinlover · 08/12/2025 14:35

Kelly.

Calliopespa · 08/12/2025 14:36

GoldenRosebee · 08/12/2025 14:10

I like Clelia the best

My eyes keeping double-taking and trying to see Celia.

Maybe Aliki?

DallasMajor · 08/12/2025 14:38

Aliki reads to me Alkie as in alcoholic.

Sticky Vicky.

Kyveli is very pretty written down, I'm not sure how to pronounce it but I would learn.

Calliopespa · 08/12/2025 14:40

Someone mentioned Kelly was a bit dated, which I think it probably is with that spelling.

I'm not normally fan of new spellings but would you consider Callie? I think that is ok as it is a nn for Callista, and is a bit more of a current spelling, easily recognisable and easily pronounced.

LochKatrine · 08/12/2025 14:45

Interesting list! I'm not sure how you'd pronounce 1,3 and 4?
Aliki is quite nice.
People would find Vicky and Kelly the easiest to pronounce, if that makes a difference.
I quite like Clelia, but like pp, keep thinking it's a typo for Celia.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 08/12/2025 14:50

@Calliopespa , Callie isn't a new spelling of Kelly.

Calliopespa · 08/12/2025 15:03

DuchessOfNarcissex · 08/12/2025 14:50

@Calliopespa , Callie isn't a new spelling of Kelly.

That makes my suggestion all the better then.

Notmymarmosets · 08/12/2025 15:08

Sorry all terrible, but I suppose Kelly if pushed. In 20 years it will probably feel fresh and new.

LoudPlumDog · 08/12/2025 15:13

Kellie

LochKatrine · 08/12/2025 15:14

LoudPlumDog · 08/12/2025 15:13

Kellie

I think that spelling looks nicer.

MayaPinion · 08/12/2025 15:15

Clelia is giving off chlamydia vibes.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 08/12/2025 15:21

@Calliopespa Nothing wrong with Callie, but suggesting it is a different spelling of Kelly is not good in any way.

ExperiencedContractor · 08/12/2025 15:28

Aliki - nice sound, nice meaning
Kelly - ok, doesn’t seem to fit with your other choices
Kyveli - don’t like
Clelia - looks really pretty written but I found it difficult to say out loud
Vicky - Victoria is by far a better choice than Vicky.

I would choose Victoria, but if you don’t like the full name then my second choice is Aliki.

Pranksters · 08/12/2025 15:53

It’s quite a random list. Two 80s names, Vicky and Kelly (and Vicky is short for Victoria) and then the rest which are unusual.

Clelia is a mouthful and will be mispronounced as Celia. Kyveli reminds me of something I don’t know what but I don’t like it. Aliki, how do you pronounce it? Like ‘a leaky’, like a leaky tap?

elliesmummy19 · 08/12/2025 17:05

My name is Kelly but I can’t say I like any of them really, Kelly included.

I could probably get on board with Vicky if it was short for Victoria.

Calliopespa · 08/12/2025 17:10

DuchessOfNarcissex · 08/12/2025 15:21

@Calliopespa Nothing wrong with Callie, but suggesting it is a different spelling of Kelly is not good in any way.

I hadn't realised it was always pronounced differently.

My dc had a friend Callie, short for Callista, and they said Kelly. But to me that was not the way I had always seen it before in terms of spelling.
