Baby girl name - Please help - Shortlist - 5 names to choose from

Which one would you choose out of the following:

  1. Aliki
  2. Kelly
  3. Kyveli
  4. Clelia
  5. Vicky

I know they sound probably a weird selection of names, but we are not British (although we are living in the UK) and we are trying to honour family relatives and to choose a name that works in both our origin country and the UK.

I get that these names could all be a second name and to call the child with another more mainstream name, but this is not an option.

If you could please rank them, it would help a lot :) Thanks

I agree that Aliki and Kyveli are the best from your list.

I have a soft spot for the sound of Cybele and slightly prefer Kyveli now I know they are related.

SwallowsandAmazonians · 09/12/2025 10:13

I like Aliki, Kyveli and Kelly

villamariavintrapp · 09/12/2025 10:15

I like Kyveli, and Aliki (boom boom down..) thanks for the ear worm!

Cybele is a great name.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 09/12/2025 10:16

I genuinely think brits would assume Clelia is a typo (Celia) and it would be a pain in the ass for your daughter.

Victoria is lovely
I've never heard Aliki or Kyveli but they sound pretty.
I'm not a fan of Kelly but it's a perfectly normal name

ChocolateCinderToffee · 09/12/2025 19:14

Vicky is the only one I’d consider.

DramaAlpaca · 09/12/2025 19:22

I quite like Kyveli.

Thank you all, really useful, although quite mixed responses.

Most of you said that Kelly and Vicky are dated.
Most of you said that Clelia is body part/mispelled Celia/tongue twister/medical.

So if we narrow them down to Aliki and Kyveli? I know they are not UK standard but not hard to learn.

Aliki is pronounced indeed as Ah-leaky

Kyveli is pronounced as Kiv-Ellie.

Thoughts on these two? Are they too extreme names for UK? They are both valid names in our origin country and they don't look weird with our surname.

They are both nice

Aliki will be easier.

Alexander has got v popular so I expect Alexandra will pick up - Alecky is an early 20th C nn for that which might pick up with it, but anyway, it feels familiar

mathanxiety · 10/12/2025 01:54

Aliki is lovely.
Clelia is OK.

The rest I wouldn't use at all.

wandawaves · 10/12/2025 02:10

Not really a fan of any of them, but would choose Kellie if i had to.

I would have no idea how to pronounce Aliki, Clelia, and Kyveli. I certainly wouldn't have guessed KivEllie as you've just said.

Firebird83 · 10/12/2025 18:58

I like Aliki best

Catcatcat111 · 10/12/2025 19:03

I wouldn’t know how to pronounce them, but once someone told me I’d be fine. I’d go with whatever is your preference. People will learn how to say it/spell it!

falalalalalalalallama · 10/12/2025 19:03

Is Aliki pronounced A-leek-ee or A-lick-ee?

If it's A-leek-ee I think it sounds lovely and is my favourite, but if it's A-lick-ee, I still like it, but I worry it might be cause for teasing?

  1. Aliki
  2. Vicky
  3. Kyveli
  4. Kelly - due for a come back? Why not!
  5. Clelia
Randomcrackedegg · 10/12/2025 19:17

All ok apart from Kelly. Clelia and Celia look similar on paper but sound totally different. I once worked with a doctor called Clelia, lovely lady

Twoshoesnewshoes · 10/12/2025 19:37

Now that I know Clelia is pronounced with a short e, like jelly, I really like it, but the spelling suggests clee lia if you don’t know the pronunciation.
could you spell it either a double L?
I like it more than aliki which makes me think of leeky mash.

user2848502016 · 10/12/2025 20:00

Aliki is nice, haven’t heard the name before but I like it best on your list.
Also like Kelly even though it’s quite 80s!

DallasMajor · 10/12/2025 20:15

Now I know how it is pronounced Kyveli is lovely

I don't think either are too extreme. They're not hard to say.

Once people learn how to pronounce it, it'll be fine. Most UK schools have DC from different cultures and people just get used to the names.

Thinking about the UK tendancy to create nicknames, Aliki does offer Ali as an obvious nickname.

Kyveli, less obvious - her friends may end up calling her Kyv, I suppose! Or perhaps Ellie. Or maybe no nickname.

I agree I like it better now I know how to pronounce it.

ChristmasinBrighton · 17/01/2026 20:14

Vicky

ChubbyFecker · 17/01/2026 22:33

Aliki... tap
Kelly...dated
Kyveli...lovely
Clelia... nice
Vicky...dated

geoger · 17/01/2026 22:51

I’m guessing you’re Greek? So many beautiful names that you can choose from. What are the names of the family members you’d like to honour?

Out of the names you’ve listed Aliki is probably the nicest but it’s not the prettiest Greek name out there.
What about
Calliope
Eleni
Sophia
Athena
Thea
Ariadne
Lydia
Thalia
Penelope
Daphne
Phoebe
Iliana

FryingPam · 17/01/2026 22:56

1 - Vicky, even better if short for Victoria

2 - Aliki & Kyveli: unusual in the UK but they sound nice and should be ok with pronunciation

4 - Kelly: bit dated

5 - Clelia: looks like a misspelling of Celia

I haven’t heard either name before but I think both sound nice. I prefer Aliki. I imagine it’d be likely to be shortened to Ally over time in the UK so maybe think more about whether you also like that or not.
