Evan or Ivan?

Do you feel the difference between these two names? What vibe do you get for each? Thanks

How are you pronouncing them?
I’ve heard Ev -an/ I’ve -an, but I’ve also heard E-van/eye-van.

I prefer Evan of the two. I don't have any points of reference for either though so no vibe at all!

Depends how you want them pronounced. Most people would say Ivan as Eye-van and Evan will usually be pronounced Eh-van which is much nicer.
Unless you’re in Wales and spell it Ifan, which is pronounced Ee-van and is a lovely name.

I much prefer Evan, it's softer in sound.

Evan is lovely. Welsh associations for me- Evan James wrote the national anthem. Less keen on Ivan- makes me think of Ivan the Terrible, who I know very little about, but assume wasn't lovely.

I prefer Evan just because I think it sounds better. Others will prefer Ivan.

Evan is lovely - it’s familiar but not too commonly used or too dated. It’s just a lovely, neutral sounding name.

I like Ivan myself but it’s got some associations such as Ivan the terrible that could be annoying. I still like it though.

With Ivan my first thought is Ivan the terrible, so I much prefer Evan. But no one will know if it's pronounced Ee-van or Eh-van so be prepared for that.

People are probably going to prefer Evan on here because it's a UK name versus Ivan which is not and will only have associations with a famous foreign ruler. However, as your nephew's name is Evan, I would not use this just because it's preferred on here. I think it would be really weird to have two grandkids with the same name when there are so many to choose from.

I personally much prefer Owen, Ethan, Ian, Ezra or Dylan as ones I think are a similar style.

I know an Evan and he's never had his name pronounced by anyone as Eevan.

It's a nice name but I don't mind Ivan either. Sorry not much help there.

Evan for me. A good strong name.

I like Ivan too, though. I think of Lendl ….because I’m more into tennis than history. 😆
