Hey!
My husband and I have the name “Jovie”’ down on our list to name our baby girl. We’ve had it in our minds for a while but it’s pretty uncommon. What are people’s first impression of the name?

Thanks, R ☺️

I haven’t heard it before but I like the sound of it 😊

Arlanymor · 14/11/2025 20:38

I haven't heard it, but I do know a Jorie which is short for Marjorie and is just gorgeous in my eyes.

People might think it's a tribute to Jon Bon Jovi? Fine if you're happy with that!

PurpleCyclamen · 14/11/2025 20:38

It’s bon.

Marylou2 · 14/11/2025 20:39

Tres bon. Sorry couldn't resist.

Meadowflower2023 · 14/11/2025 20:39

I’ve also not heard of this one but I do quite like it.

It’s bon.

Ah you beat me to it!

overstimulatedhermit · 14/11/2025 20:40

I love it. First heard it on the film elf, it’s nice and different from all boring bland names that are just on rotation

RecordBreakers · 14/11/2025 20:40

I'd assume it were a typo.

SirChenjins · 14/11/2025 20:41

Oui, tres bon

APatternGrammar · 14/11/2025 20:41

I have just bought a doll from a Christmas present and it came with a label saying its name is Jovie. So I assume it’s not completely unknown.
It’s nice.

Zempy · 14/11/2025 20:41

Yeah it makes me think of Elf.

And that’s always a good thing.

BatchCookBabe · 14/11/2025 20:43

I just think of the girl from Elf. A no from me.

Why does no-one go with regular, normal names anymore? Confused

CrostaDiPizza · 14/11/2025 20:44

Jovie | Mumsnet

RNJo · 14/11/2025 20:47

@CrostaDiPizza ah yes, thank you. I’d just looked through that post but wanted to get an updated view on the name ☺️

I love it! Although mainly because when I was 15 I was adamant I was going to have twin girls called Bonnie and Jovie when I was older 😂

RNJo · 14/11/2025 20:49

@WoahThreeAces ha, that’s brilliant!

Millions of people do.

Jovie makes me think of Elf OP. I don’t mind it.

cuppacat · 14/11/2025 20:51

I know the name Jovie from the movie Elf. It's not that uncommon now and is becoming more popular - I know of 2 girls within the past year given that name. I suspect it is to do with the film though it's been around for years though it's now a stage play which may make it more popular. I do like it though.

Needmorelego · 14/11/2025 20:51

I used to know one.
Her mum was half of Indian descent so I assumed it was an Indian name.
I like it.
Edit : Google tells me the name is Italian in origin. I just assumed Indian because of the mums background.

Gowlett · 14/11/2025 20:53

It’s in makey-uppy name territory, for me.

I’d expect to see it tattooed on dad’s leg.

PInkyStarfish · 14/11/2025 20:53

My sister is Jolie. I think that’s nicer sounding and softer than Jovie.

opencecilgee · 14/11/2025 20:54

Never heard of it because it’s not a name

I’d bet it’s people who liked the film as kids/teens when it came out are now starting to have babies. :)

Holiday24 · 14/11/2025 20:56

I think it's nice 🙂

Runlikesomeoneleftgateopen · 14/11/2025 20:57

I like it and l also like Jodie and Josie.
