I've had this on my list for yeears - originally got the idea from the Christmas film 'Elf', the girl is called Jovie.

I think it's gorgeous for a girl but it's uncommon.
What's everyone's opinions on it?? Grin

Bon jovi
Jovial (usually means fat drunk man)
Josie with a typo
Generally not good

PiperPublickOccurrences · 29/09/2018 14:42

Bon Jovie.

Jovie isn't a name, sorry.

schopenhauer · 29/09/2018 14:42

??

Agustarella · 29/09/2018 14:46

A diminutive of Jove, maybe?! Really odd choice, especially for a girl.

Josico58 · 29/09/2018 14:49

Hmm, I'm with everyone else on the Bon Jovi references.

What about the french name, Jolie? It means 'pretty'. Ok you might get the Angelina Jolie comments but its actually her middle not last name. So it is a real name.

happymummy12345 · 29/09/2018 14:50

I immediately thought of Bon Jovi I must admit.
I'll have their songs stuck in my head all day now, and I'm only 25.

scrivette · 29/09/2018 14:57

I have met a Jovi before, named after Jon Bon Jovi.

I think it sounds nice.

QueenOfMyWorld · 29/09/2018 14:59

I like jolie no jovie though sorry

Bachstelze · 29/09/2018 15:00

@Josico58 "Jolie" does mean "pretty", but it is not really a name. The only source about it that I can find says there are four (4) living Jolies in France. Most sources don't list it at all.

manicinsomniac · 29/09/2018 16:18

I'd never heard of this till I saw it on another poster's shortlist yesterday - weird coincidence or is that your thread too?

I think it's really cute and I like it a lot. It's unusual to see a name that's a complete unknown to me (I'm a teacher and I love names).

I've never seen Elf - is Jovie short for something in that?

Cauliflowersqueeze · 29/09/2018 16:19

Jon Bon

woodlande · 29/09/2018 16:19

@manicinsomniac not my list, but saw it and it did trigger my memory of how much I love it when it was on my shortlist!

woodlande · 29/09/2018 16:20

@manicinsomniac Jovie doesn't seem to be short for something in it - if it is, I don't think they say. She's played by Zooey Deschanel and I think the name sounds lovely when mentioned in it Smile

There's someone in my work called Jovie. It doesn't remind me of Jon Bon because it's spelled differently. I like it.

StressedToTheMaxx · 29/09/2018 16:23

My daughter called her fairy this last night. Jovi means brave. It's a beautiful name I think.

Josico58 · 29/09/2018 16:26

@Bachstelze According to Google it is a name.

Bridgetwithoutthejones · 29/09/2018 16:26

First thought was juvi, sorry!

BatBelle · 29/09/2018 16:30

I think it's nice, I wouldn't instantly think of John Bon Jovi either

Cookit · 29/09/2018 16:31

Is it actually a name?

crispsahoy · 29/09/2018 16:32

I love it! Go for it

Peridot1 · 29/09/2018 16:36

I like it. An Australian friend used it for her son. Jove with Jovie as a nickname.

AuntieStella · 29/09/2018 16:36

Jon Bon - it's a big enough band that the association will be strong for years to come.

I assumed from the thread title it was a boys name - either that surname or a short form of Jovan.

If you want an ethereal n, how about Elfieda/Elfie, Titania (awkward to shorten, though), Faye

GileadWivesAreFashionIcons · 29/09/2018 16:43

Op can I just say in advance that I’m sorry...

.... but my mother always pronounced the word ‘jobbie’ as ‘jobie’, but it may just be because she’s Scottish (Also it may just be her). Jobbie is slang for pooh.

It may well be that I’m the only person in the world who ever makes this association but it’s the first thing I thought of Blush

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 29/09/2018 16:57

I love the sound of it but would assume it was a boy's name because of Jon Bon Jovi.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/09/2018 17:50

Sorry no. As everyone else has said my first thought is Jon Bon, people will probably assume you're a huge fan.
