Opinions on Kodie?

What sort of image do you get from the name Kodie? It is our top choice for our daughter, likely with the middle name of Anne or Margaret. My friend said she thought it was a boys name at first so thought I’d try consulting a name forum. Thanks all.

It's awful. I'd imagine Kodie had siblings Konna, Kayden and Klamidia.

Klamidia! 😂

FloraSpoke · 12/11/2025 22:14

Kno.

Mandarinaduck · 12/11/2025 22:15

I actually think it is a sweet name, but I assumed boy as well.

Blinky21 · 12/11/2025 22:18

German shepherd is the image I get

Hayley1256 · 12/11/2025 22:20

I know 2 Codie's both men. I think the girls version is Cady ( from Mean Girls)

ViolaPlains · 12/11/2025 22:21

It’s an illegal streaming box.

Chinsupmeloves · 12/11/2025 22:22

Nooooo, the original Cody is nice but to spell it differently to try to make a girl's name doesn't work, for me anyway. Sorry. X

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 12/11/2025 22:24

God no. Awful.

Cody for a boy is quite nice, but I am not sure I would want to be an adult male Cody?

Cady is a girl's name but very American - ok though.

Callie?

YourWinter · 12/11/2025 22:25

Cody is the usual spelling, it’s a nice enough name for a dog. Kodie is a daft name for a human. Jodie’s not to my taste, but at least she wouldn’t feel a complete idiot when she had to explain her parents’ silly attempt to be cool.

Dmsandfloatydress · 12/11/2025 22:31

Kodie will make her living on the pole or only fans. She will have fake lips and boobs by 21 and social services will be involved with her children due to inappropriate boyfriends. That's what I think of when I hear the name. Don't do it!

Peridot1 · 12/11/2025 22:49

We had a dog called Codie. Loved it for her.

That's hilarious because the Cody I used to know was as far from that as the moon.

Bbq1 · 12/11/2025 23:04

Anne Margaret/Margaret Anne is much nicer.

LadyGAgain · 12/11/2025 23:06

There’s a Kady at our school. Girl. Cody (was it neighbours or home and away) is a boy. You could have it as a girls name. Your proposed spelling isn’t pretty.

Aimesthegaime · 12/11/2025 23:09

God these comments are utterly vile. I can’t say Kodie is a name I would use but the sheer judgemental classism is totally uncalled for.
I know a Kodie, she is mid-20s and while you would be right to say she’s not the kings daughter, she works in middle management already at a well respected company and is a lovely, hardworking person.
There is absolutely no need for people to be so bloody horrible about a name, you can just say it’s not to your taste and move on!
It wouldn’t kill people on this forum to remember the names being suggested are probably the names of real people who may end up seeing the thread and feeling quite hurt by people’s stuck up and pretentious comments.

TheRosesAreInBloom · 12/11/2025 23:10

Dreadful…sorry I know I’m being very blunt, just have to be honest.

BatchCookBabe · 12/11/2025 23:12

Cody is OK, just about, but spelt 'Kodie' it looks ridiculous.

TokenGinger · 12/11/2025 23:14

I know a Codie. I much prefer it with a C. I love it on her, it really suits her and she’s a lovely girl.

What makes it have "negative associations" ?
Just out of curiosity.

I personally know a Cody from DC’s school—Dad has been in and out of prison, and Cody has been permanently excluded. Perhaps PP means those types of associations?

Cat1504 · 12/11/2025 23:53

It’s awful

TheBirdintheCave · 13/11/2025 00:06

I think the suggestions of Cadi* and Cadence (nn Cady) are the best.

Cody is an anglicisation of an Irish surname so technically shouldn’t be used as a given name. However, if you absolutely must there’s nothing that makes it more of a boy or girl name. I’d spell it Cody to avoid constantly spelling it out.

*double check the pronunciation of this as it’s Welsh

Peternell · 13/11/2025 00:07

Negative impressions for me. I'm sure you can find something better.

Nutmuncher · 13/11/2025 00:10

Sounds like a rough boys name or a shortened medication name sorry.

Regularmumm · 13/11/2025 00:10

Sorry but it’s horrible

Radiator981 · 13/11/2025 00:16

I thought it was a name for a dog! Sorry it’s really not good.
