There was one other girl at school with my name. I've never met another since which is odd because it's not an unusual name at all

WhatIsTheCharge · 03/11/2025 20:09

My name was a very popular name at the time I was born.
In my Reception class, there were 5 of us with the same name 🫠 So throughout my time at school in a small town, we were all known as “Firstname + Lastname initial” - literally up until high school finished and we all went our separate ways 😂

Literally noone - Kristy (not Kirsty)

My at school best mate has a daughter called Kristy. Ages about 30.

In 50yo I’ve met 2 people with my first name, one absolutely hated me, cant deny the feeling wasn’t mutual and the other I really disliked I found her rude and arrogant.

StrongLikeMamma · 03/11/2025 20:20

My Aunt.
My friend.
It’s a classic name that was quite popular in the 70’s.
But I love it.

NormanSicily · 03/11/2025 20:52

I have no one in my life who has my first name.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 03/11/2025 20:54

I've only ever met two people with my name in my life.

PiggieWig · 03/11/2025 20:55

SIL has the same first name as me and since she married my brother she also has my original surname.

pencilpotted · 03/11/2025 20:56

My Aunt, also my god mother. Honestly though I don't like her much, she seems to feel as if she is some kind of competition with me and is always making nasty little comments to or about me. I avoid her.

BotterMon · 03/11/2025 20:58

The only one I know is my DD's MIL. She uses a shortened version whereas I don't so there's never any confusion

Octavia64 · 03/11/2025 20:59

I have only ever met one person with my name and she came to find me at a uni open day she was so excited! She’d never met anyone else with that name either!

she was Rumanian - apparently it is (slightly) more common over there.

never met anyone else with my name although I believe there are a couple of others in the uk

tourdefrance · 03/11/2025 21:03

My godmother. But she's not really in my life as she lives in a different country and I haven't had direct contact with her much as an adult.

Overthemhills · 03/11/2025 21:08

I’ve met 3 people with my first name in my life. One born on the same day in the same hospital (because her mum liked the name my mum had given me, so gave it her daughter too), I did meet her many years later, one I worked with sometimes and one in a train station bar where I was waiting for some family members and a man was harassing a very young woman because he claimed she couldn’t have that name as only his (alleged) ex had it - I put paid to that conversation.

MiseryIn · 03/11/2025 21:28

A relatively distant friend of a friend.
lots of people with my long name though - but my actual shortening is relatively unusual now.

CheeseWisely · 03/11/2025 21:39

The occasional client at work, and someone who bought something from me off marketplace the other day. Odd because it was a fairly popular name when I was born and I'm only middle-aged. Don’t know where they’ve all gone!

gingercat02 · 03/11/2025 21:56

No one but my middle name was for both of my grandmother's, and they were a hugely important part of my life.

AgentPidge · 03/11/2025 22:00

Probably a newsreader.

GreenMarigold · 03/11/2025 22:05

I have a moderately unusual first name and pretty unusual middle name spelt the even more unusual way.

There is someone who lives in the next village over who has the same two names but reversed. Not sure that makes her notable though!

honeyfox · 03/11/2025 22:06

I've met very few. There is a variant with one letter different though and I've come across a fair few of those, including my MIL. One of the reasons that I didn't take DH's name 😃

DancefloorAcrobatics · 04/11/2025 06:23

I only know 2 people with the same name as me. My primary school teacher and a very famous children's book author.

PlummyDog · 04/11/2025 06:27

A bloke at work and one of DH’s childhood friends. Haven’t met another woman with in since I was in sixth form.

tinytemper66 · 04/11/2025 06:39

No one really. My name is Welsh by very uncommon these days.

muddyford · 04/11/2025 06:42

My godmother. In the same significance bracket as my parents and sister. I have spent a week's holiday with her the last two years and it was absolutely brilliant. She's 20 years older than me and it really doesn't matter.

Westfacing · 04/11/2025 06:47

My best friend of the past 39 years - we were school mums, both with two boys of the same ages.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/11/2025 06:54

The HR lady at work.
