What do you mean by 'relevant' in this context ?

I've got a fairly common name - extremely common amongst people my age, but also 'classic' enough I know people from older and younger generations with the same name.

However, not really sure how to answer.

I've never met anyone with my name, in all my 44 years. Unless you count a Yorkshire Terrier in 1987.

I would totally count that.

Hapagirl48 · 03/11/2025 18:37

My name was unusual in my generation. It’s very popular with current kids and dogs though. I’ve never met anyone my age with my name.

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 03/11/2025 18:39

I've barely ever met anyone with the same name as me, let alone had them be 'relevant.' My name isn't especially unusual either. Just not common. I didn't have anyone in my year at school with the same name for the whole of my time in school. I never worked with anyone with my name either.

Uricon2 · 03/11/2025 18:40

No one, I was the only girl with it all the way through school 50+ years ago. It went through a resurgence in the late 90s.

Second name a different story, family name (inc gt gt grandmother) and the person who I was actually named for who died as a child. I was born on the umpteenth anniversary of her death and do include at least the initial where possible, in her memory.

TomatoSandwiches · 03/11/2025 18:41

No one.

Infact with my maiden name I'm truly sure that I am the only one with my name.

Title is nothing about friends though, just about relevance.

My hairdresser has the same name as me. And DC driving instructor.

I took relevance to be about friends, even if partly..

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 03/11/2025 18:53

My name isn't the sort that would be given to dogs. It's not cutesy, it's not an elegant classic, it was never edgy or 'out there' but neither was it ubiquitous. It's never yet had a second wave of popularity. Most people with my name are anywhere from 70 to 40 but most of us are in our fifties, I'm guessing. It was never a top ten name, possibly a top 50 at most. I am struggling to even think of anyone I've even met with my name, now I come to think of it. There have been a couple of famous people called it, I've been aware of a few friends of friends over the years, but I've never had a friend, acquaintance or colleague with my name.

I'd put my name in the same sort of category as Donna, Gina, Erica, Andrea and Carla.

luckylavender · 03/11/2025 19:04

The people with my name that I know use a shortened version which I dislike. I use a different shortened version. So if it were Elizabeth they use Lizzie & I use Liz.

Sharptonguedwoman · 03/11/2025 19:10

No one close. I have a slightly old fashioned name (think Susan or Patricia era) . Very rarely meet another Sharptonguedwoman and we are all over 60.

MsSquiz · 03/11/2025 19:13

I’ve only met a handful of people with my name, no one I’ve ever been friends with though

Pallisers · 03/11/2025 19:25

I've very rarely met anyone with my name. the 5 year old across the road has it (it is still rare but becoming more popular) and her mum told me she likes to talk about "The Pallisers who live in our neighbourhood"

Icecreamandcoffee · 03/11/2025 19:28

My Mother in Law.

LasVegass · 03/11/2025 19:39

I’m named after my godmother’s son (the feminine version, obviously), so that’s relevant. Loads with my name at school and uni, none close friends.

kshaw · 03/11/2025 19:46

Literally noone - Kristy (not Kirsty)

NormasArse · 03/11/2025 19:49

I know two children (one sadly died of cancer 😔) with the shortened version of my name, which I use. The other one attends the setting I work in, which can get really confusing 😁.

No adults though (apart from one ‘famous’ one), which is odd as I’m 59.

ReignOfError · 03/11/2025 19:49

I don’t know anyone with my first name. My grandaughter’s name is one of my middle names - I loathe it, but would obviously never say so.

MumChp · 03/11/2025 19:51

Noone tbh.

Blogswife · 03/11/2025 19:53

I met someone on a work residential course in London over 40 years ago. Not only did she have the same name but it had the same unusual spelling . We really hit it off and had a riot but sadly lost touch. I’ve tried to find her over the years to no avail !

JudgeBread · 03/11/2025 19:53

My dog.

I also have two cousins with the same name. Evidently it was a favourite.

chunkyBoo · 03/11/2025 19:53

I’ve only briefly met 2 people with my first name … it’s a known name, originally a surname but it’s not popular in the UK

Cat1504 · 03/11/2025 19:54

One of my GDs

ShesTheAlbatross · 03/11/2025 19:54

I suppose my great aunt. But I’ve only met her a handful of times. But she’s the only person I’ve ever met with my name.

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 03/11/2025 19:55

My name is a family name that goes back many, many generations. I don't know anybody else with my name. I do remember many years ago my mum going to a spa and the therapist had my first and second names but the opposite way around ie my name is Henrietta Daisy* and her name was Daisy Henrietta.

*not my actual name.

Imicola · 03/11/2025 19:56

My boss, plus another colleague that we work on a project with. Confusing!
