Following on from the Old Lady names thread, what are some vintage boys’ names that might see a resurgence? How about

Arthur
Clement
Leonard
Quentin
Raymond
Walter
Wilbur

Wilfted and Vincent is popular near me. Also know a few bernards.

I know a 12 yo Wilfie, short for Wilfred and a Vincent known as Vinnie.

I think people are confusing dated with classic.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 30/10/2025 19:32

Edmund, Victor and Aubrey... but please don't make them wildly fashionable, because they are on my list! I also have a soft spot for Anthony.

I have met young boys called Peter, John, Vincent (Vinnie) and David. More recently, I've come across a teenager called Michael!

One of my friends newborns is John. I see these names as classics rather than old men names. They don't date. There's always enough of them in the population.Although their popularity may drop a little bit.

They were on my baby name lists but DH vetoed

CoalTit · 30/10/2025 20:25

Isidor

CoalTit · 30/10/2025 20:31

Older male names that I think won't come back because they have the stigma of femininity now:

Meredith
Tracy
Vivian
Hilary
Evelyn
Leslie has already been mentioned
Lyndsay/Lyndsey. Is that one old?

GoodQueenBess · 30/10/2025 20:36

@CoalTit , it's Lindsay and it's a surname as a first name.
Look up Lindsay Hoyle and Lindsay Whittle.

Arthur is top 10 already. Wilbur and Walter I think are probably coming up in top 300. I think the next ‘old man names’ will be

ernest
vincent

leonard
sidney

frank

ray
ivor

I teach about 5 boys called Frank!
It's nearly as popular as Alfie/Albie/Noah!

I work in a preschool. We have had in the past couple of years:
Reggie
Dave
Tony
Arthur
Albert
Archie
Bernie (nb. Not Bernard)
Hughie

I would love to see more Daves. It's a great name. I'm not sure Baz and Gaz will ever make a comeback. You still don't get Maureens or Eileens.

Denim4ever · 30/10/2025 22:52

Clarence
Alvar
Evelyn
Gregory

I know a Godfrey in his 70s who always thought his name was old fashioned.
