Following on from the Old Lady names thread, what are some vintage boys’ names that might see a resurgence? How about

Arthur
Clement
Leonard
Quentin
Raymond
Walter
Wilbur

@musicalfrog Born between 1965 and 1980. We're ancient.

DD just met a classmate called Paul and she was laughing to me - "How can someone under 45 be called Paul? Only Dads and Grandads are called Paul."

We get old faster than we think.

I agree that these names are still too young to be revived! There are still loads of middle aged men called Paul, Andy & Dave. Way too many of them actually!

David hasn't gone away. David is the 60th most popular boy's name in England and Wales.

Apart from Barry, those names are fine. I hear Barry in Joanna Page's voice.

Haha very true - I can't help but think of Barry or Graham as an old chap's name if I met a baby called that tomorrow.

I met a baby Rodney recently, cute.

Was he called Rodney after Dave?

PlaceIntheClouds · 31/10/2025 19:36

Jesus

He's getting on a bit now.

Eh? Arthur is one of the most popular boy names of the last 10-15 years

Walter and Wilbur have had a degree of popularity for the same period

Raymond has come up in the last couple years

Quentin (inexplicable to me) has suddenly got popular

Leonard deffo on the up

Do you not know any little kids?!

I guess i don’t know that many young children but i can see that Arthur has become quite popular. I only know one young Quentin & Leonard.

@Lemonadepie , Arthur is more than quite popular.
Quentin isn't popular at all but I think one or two users are mentioning it a lot.

Leonard has had a bit of a boost, probably because Leo is so popular.

I have kids in the range 9-21 just outside London and I have only come across one 15y old Arthur tbh. Maybe there are lots of baby Arthurs.

I think the 70s old man names like Nigel, Barry, Trevor will never come back surely! Who would look at a tiny cute baby and call him Nigel!?

Stanley and Spencer seem popular amongst the younger kids at the primary school. Quite a few Billys.

GoodQueenBess · 09/11/2025 11:02

@thecalmsea , why not though. There's nothing wrong with them other than they're not fashionable.

Absolutely Nigel, Barry & Trevor will come back! The current elderly ones were babies once so their parents obviously liked them. Give it another 20-30 years and they’ll start to sound ‘fresh’ again.
