Is Tristan posh?

Just that really!

i think it's a nice, middle ground name. Not too wacky/out there, but also not too pretentious.

I've just watched a TV show with a very posh Tristan in it, and now I'm wondering!

HeddaGarbled · 12/09/2025 23:39

Yes - to me it is.

LivingTheDreamish · 12/09/2025 23:49

I'm not sure either but I like it.

MarthaBeach · 13/09/2025 00:02

Yes it is posh

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/09/2025 00:03

It used to be. The one I know is definitely not posh.

KawasakiBabe · 13/09/2025 00:05

There’s a Tristan who lives directly opposite me, he’s a year older than my ds and they’ve been friends for a long time. Tristan is a decent lad, I’d say middle class and well liked. Go for it.

CharmCharmCharm · 13/09/2025 00:06

I wouldn’t immediately think posh but I really like it!

youalright · 13/09/2025 00:08

I really like it i wouldn't see it as posh

Complet · 13/09/2025 00:09

No, not when I was growing up in the 90s. I’m not sure if it’s changed now? Apart from a few particular/peculiar names, most names are classless now.

friskery · 13/09/2025 00:10

It's like Hugo.

RoverReturn · 13/09/2025 00:10

No its not posh. A great name

Bluebay · 13/09/2025 00:19

It's the name of our plumber.

Shouldhavelovedathunderbird · 13/09/2025 00:27

The only Tristan I knew was in my university year group and as I read political history, he was readimg military history. He and his mates were eccentric more than posh, albeit middle class. The last Friday of each month they used to come to lectures dressed in historical military uniforms, bless them.

It was Tristan or Tristram, either or. Its a nice solid name.

TerminalMoraine · 13/09/2025 00:29

Tristan isn’t as posh as St John.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/09/2025 00:03

It used to be. The one I know is definitely not posh.

Likewise. The one I know is firmly WC.

MCF86 · 13/09/2025 00:39

I've known two children called Tristan (work with children so that's two out of hundreds). One family were quite posh, the other were... I can't think of a term that doesn't sound judgemental and I don't want to because I loved them! Nature lovers, very eco friendly, mum wore dungarees from an ethical clothing brand I can't remember the name of. Both lovely families

Lindtnotlint · 13/09/2025 00:41

It’s posh.

Shivaughn · 13/09/2025 00:41

I love it and don’t think it’s posh. It’s a really nice solid name, not sure why it’s not more popular.

Allthefruit · 13/09/2025 00:43

I think it used to be.
But I know two children called Tristan and they are both decidedly not posh (mums that vape at school pickup etc)

PandaG · 13/09/2025 00:45

I would probably consider it a bit posh, but in all the years I've worked with children I don't think I've met one. Makes me think of All Creatures Great and Small though.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 13/09/2025 01:07

It’s very posh. I do like it but it’s definitely posh. Xx

MarchionessVonSausage · 13/09/2025 01:15

Australian here, I had no idea Tristan was considered posh. Then again we're a bit less classist here.

I have an affinity for the name as it was the name of my friend's son. He passed away age 41. Everyone called him Tris and he was an awesome man 😍

Marcipix · 13/09/2025 01:19

More aspirational than posh.

Togetheragain45 · 13/09/2025 01:27

It used to be posh, but less so now.
Rupert, Henry, Hugo - all posh.

alexdgr8 · 13/09/2025 01:38

Sounds pretentious to me.
And slightly comical.
Like a stereotype character.
Possibly akin to Tim nice but dim.
Not a name I'd choose.

WallaceinAnderland · 13/09/2025 03:09

It can be seen as posh. But then I knew siblings called Tiffany and Tristan and everyone called them Fanny and Stan so, who knows.
