Names like Roger and Alan…?

My DH has terrible taste in names! When I had my first boy, the names he liked were Roger, Alan, Norman (!) We settled on John (as modern as he would get). I’m pregnant again, don’t know the sex yet, but looking for any boy names with a similar vibe but a bit more palatable. I like traditional/biblical names like Joseph, Thomas, Daniel FYI. Any suggestions…?

I really like old timey names - but love old timey names that remind me of knights and mythology.

I have a friend who called her baby Alan! I’m not keen, but John is cute and can be Jonny, Jonno etc. I really like Joe too.

Would he consider something like Peter, Mark, Michael, Andrew, Christopher, Francis, Philip, David?

All out of fashion but strong traditional names which match John well.

Roger is terrible!

Ooh these are good suggestions! DH also loves Alan and Peter but I don’t like them 🙈 We both like William as well, but have a cat called Billy so it won’t work.

Thanks everyone! A lot of these names are also names of family members (mostly older generations 😁) including David, Stephen, Alexander, Christopher, but these are definitely the ‘right’ type of names. DH likes Robert and I don’t hate it, so that’s a maybe, or maybe Michael or Thomas. Those are probably my top 3 at the moment.

Joshua , Adam, Samuel, Solomon
I’d be wary of Thomas with your other DS name though.

I know what you mean re Thomas but we also have 3 DDs (DS is the third child) so I wouldn’t just be shouting John Thomas in the playground. That is why DH isn’t so keen on Thomas though, he does like the name.

Actually, I'm not that old and there was a boy at my college called Alan. He was 17. It was just his name. Nobody batted an eyelid.
