Help me love my babies name - PND

My son was born after a really traumatic time late pregnancy and he needed a hospital stay. I’m sure I’ve had some version of PND dealing with it and I feel I’m coming out the other side I hope. It was worth it for him being earthside but was unimaginable. One of the things is he doesn’t feel like his name. It doesn’t feel special enough, as it turns out it’s the number 1 name. I’d never heard of anyone else with this name. Maybe if it hadn’t had been number 1 it would have felt ok.

Ive read alot of name regret is tied to PND. I can’t think of any other name to call him and I don’t want to change it now. I just want to love it and use it happily with him. Well I do like other names but DH doesn’t and we have a fucking awful surname that rules out a lot of the names I did like for stupid rhyming and not sounding right with it.

So please tell me the positives about the name Noah. I don’t need to hear about him being one of 20 in his class, I am really struggling. Please be nice and only post of you can help me reframe my thinking.

Thank you

I don’t know a single Noah! And I have lived in Scotland, Wales and England in the last five years!

OP when I was wobbling about DS’s name I found that it helped when we were bought a couple of gifts with his name on. Seeing it written down on things around the house made it seem a bit more real and ‘his’ if that makes sense?

I like Noah. I also have never met a Noah.
Glad you are feeling like you are coming out the other side 💐

Noah has the association with the bible story about a good man who saves all the animals. It means Rest or Repose. It’s a beautiful sound for calling him.
Is there a pet name you shorten it or lengthen it to?

LoveSandbanks · 29/08/2025 09:42

I’m biased as I have a Noah (late teens) but it’s a fabulous name. It’s a “good” boys name. I never met a Jack who wasn’t naughty.

my Noah is unfailingly kind, honest and just.

Biblically the name means “peace” in Hebrew it means “long lived”. Who doesn’t want a peaceful long life for their child?

After the flood biblical Noah also gets hammered on wine from his own vineyard and passes out naked in a tent - so not only is it a lovely name for a little boy and a grown man, it’s also perfect for any drunken misadventures he may have as a fresher at university/when he turns 18!

Absolutely love the name Noah. Was on our list but didn't work well with our surname. I wouldn't worry too much about it being number one. My daughter's name is in the top 10 and she's ten now and we've never come across another child with the same name in any of her extra curricular activities or in school. My son by contrast has a name that's something like 75 on the most popular list and in a tiny school in a class of five boys there's another boy with his name 🤷

GallowwayGirl88 · 29/08/2025 21:21

Noah was the most popular name in Scotland last year, a whopping 366 of them. 45,763 babies were born in Scotland in the same year.

So the “most popular” boys name in Scotland accounts for roughly 0.8%.

It is very international. It's used in France, Scandinavia, the US, the UK. Noah will have a great life being called Noah.

I know one Noah in the UK (2 years old, half Italian). It's a lovely name, and easy to pronounce and spell.

Noah has supposedly been the number 1 name where I live (abroad) for the last 3-4 years, and was number 2 before that, but since my daughter started nursery almost 3 years ago they haven't had a single Noah. At one point there were 4 boys named Luca/Luka/Lucca though and they currently have a Leo, Leon and Leonardo all in the babies group!

It’s a gorgeous name! 🫶🏻

Plastictreees · 05/09/2025 14:52

It’s a great name! Despite its popularity I haven’t came across any across multiple nurseries.

Kindnesscostsnothingtryit · 05/09/2025 14:58

I have 3 sons and only ever met one Noah so not common where i live, and he was lovely!

MYOB12 · 05/09/2025 15:12

I love it….its my grandsons name!

hattie43 · 05/09/2025 15:17

I love the name Noah

It’s funny how it works out sometimes, I named my DS Oliver when it was number 1 baby boy name in the UK. He went to 2 different primary schools due to moving and was always the only Oliver in his year. Yet there were two girls with the same, more unusual name.

RedRec · 05/09/2025 16:33

It is a really lovely name.
Perhaps if you can think back to all the lovely, positive reasons you chose it in the first place you might be able to love it.
All the very best to you, OP 💐
