Help me love my babies name - PND

BeatingPND · 26/08/2025 16:23

My son was born after a really traumatic time late pregnancy and he needed a hospital stay. I’m sure I’ve had some version of PND dealing with it and I feel I’m coming out the other side I hope. It was worth it for him being earthside but was unimaginable. One of the things is he doesn’t feel like his name. It doesn’t feel special enough, as it turns out it’s the number 1 name. I’d never heard of anyone else with this name. Maybe if it hadn’t had been number 1 it would have felt ok.

Ive read alot of name regret is tied to PND. I can’t think of any other name to call him and I don’t want to change it now. I just want to love it and use it happily with him. Well I do like other names but DH doesn’t and we have a fucking awful surname that rules out a lot of the names I did like for stupid rhyming and not sounding right with it.

So please tell me the positives about the name Noah. I don’t need to hear about him being one of 20 in his class, I am really struggling. Please be nice and only post of you can help me reframe my thinking.

Thank you

Noah is a lovely classic name. It doesn't matter if there are other Noah's he is your Noah and I'm sure you will come to associate the name with him.
Also there are so many different names now chances are he will be the only Noah in his class anyway.

Mauvehoodie · 26/08/2025 17:04

I love the name Noah! Such a lovely choice. I’m surprised it’s number one as I don’t know any and have a preschool and a secondary school aged child. I know a lot of Arlos, Charlies and Arthurs and and a few Andrews and Alexanders.

if it’s any help I think they often take a while to feel like their name. With my eldest it took a while, I felt like I’d just randomly assigned this special little baby with a name and maybe I wasn’t qualified to take on such an important task! I think he was called “baby” a lot at the beginning. He definitely feels like his name now though and loves it.

RuthandPen · 26/08/2025 17:04

It's a lovely name, but if its popularity is bothering you, why not change it, assuming he's still a baby who doesn't yet identify with his name?

mnahmnah · 26/08/2025 17:07

I’m a teacher and every single Noah I have taught has been lovely! It’s a great name - solid, traditional

4andnotcounting · 26/08/2025 17:08

I’m not saying this to make you feel better , but Noah is a beautiful name ♥️. All the Noah’s I know of are beautiful too.

I have had PND and it will pass. Don’t feel guilty. (Hugs) Fwiw my ds1 has a very unusual name and I hated it and have only started to like it now he has turned 19! (I only like it now because it is unusual and unique- like him lol) or maybe I like it now cos I’m peri menopausal 🤷‍♀️

BoleynMemories13 · 26/08/2025 17:10

Noah is lovely, popular for a reason (although he definitely won't be one of 20 in a class so don't worry on that score!).

I only know lovely children called Noah.

itbemay1 · 26/08/2025 17:10

Gorgeous name! Noah is perfect. Keep it op

IfHeWantedToHeWould · 26/08/2025 17:17

I have a Noah! I love his name.

He is the only Noah in his year at school. I also work with children and we really don’t have that many Noah’s at all.

Are you getting help? Because actually this isn’t about your baby’s name underneath it all. Changing the name won’t help the underlying issues or make the PND go away.

TimetoGetUpNow · 26/08/2025 17:23

It is probably high in the name lists because there is only one spelling - whereas you might have Charles, Charlie, Charley, Charlotte, Charli, Carlotta etc all separate in the list, but still have a class full of Charlies.

I agree it’s a gorgeous name. Make up some Noah songs and sing them to your son, about how gorgeous he is, might help you connect with the name. Or call him by a nickname for now.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 26/08/2025 17:25

It’s a wonderful name. A lot of people like it because it’s such a good name! Strong but gentle which is a lovely thing to be.

FettleOfKish · 26/08/2025 17:27

Beautiful name OP, one of my favourites and I’d have used it if it went with our surname. As Mum to an Oliver I completely get that wobble about it being such a popular name but we’re 15 months in it’s clear that he’s meant to be an Oliver and I can’t imagine him with any other name. He’s the absolute best one of the bunch obviously, just as yours will be the best Noah on the Planet X

tinyspiny · 26/08/2025 17:27

It doesn’t matter how many Noah’s there are in the world , only one is your Noah and that makes him special .

TheHandmaidsSnail · 26/08/2025 17:28

Noah's Ark is the best story in the bible, it's a cool name.

You can change it though if you dont agree, PND is awful, lots of love to you x

This is true. If you added the Theo’s and Theodore’s born in 2024 together they’d be the second highest name after Muhammad, rather than 8th and 12th where they actually sit.

StrongandNorthern · 26/08/2025 17:32

One of maybe loveliest boys I ever had the pleasure of teaching was called Noah. Great kid. Great name!

SupposesRoses · 26/08/2025 17:34

Many many more names are in use these days than when John was number 1. so a name doesn’t have to be very popular to be in the top 10.
It’s a fantastic name. Once he starts saying it, you’ll love it, so you won’t have to feel like this for long.

mummysmagicmedicine · 26/08/2025 17:37

I work with children and I haven’t come across a Noah for a few weeks now (different children each day). But for my own DC, these are the duplicate names in their classes: (across all 3 DC school/nursery/baby groups/clubs etc)

Hugo x5
Freddie x3
Arthur x3 (+ 1 Artie)
Luca x2
Louie x3
Henry x3
Russel x2
Frankie x2

Belle x2
Mabel x3
Felicity x4
Ottilie x3
Clara x2

MotherofNoah · 26/08/2025 17:38

I am biased as I have a 27 year old Noah.

When we named him, it wasn’t a popular name in this country. I genuinely think everyone copied me. 😂

It’s a very cool name. You loved it for a reason.

elm26 · 26/08/2025 17:40

I’ve never met a Noah but I love it! It was in our top 3 for the little boy I’m due with any day. I really hope your PND eases soon ♥️

Spidey66 · 26/08/2025 17:41

I think Noah is a great name!

greengreyblue · 26/08/2025 17:41

Noah is a lovely name. Strong, short and classless. Congratulations .Hope you can love it again and enjoy him

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 26/08/2025 17:42

Noah is a lovely name, kind of strong but gentle!

The only Noah I've ever come across is my nephew and I'm a teacher of many years...

SummerDayys · 26/08/2025 17:43

Oh it's a lovely name @BeatingPND. 💐 As you already know, this is your PND talking. I hope you will be able to begin to feel peace about things soon; he's your beautiful boy and his name is beautiful too.

Helpmefindmysoul · 26/08/2025 17:43

PestoHoliday · 26/08/2025 17:45
