Help me love my babies name - PND

BeatingPND · 26/08/2025 16:23

My son was born after a really traumatic time late pregnancy and he needed a hospital stay. I’m sure I’ve had some version of PND dealing with it and I feel I’m coming out the other side I hope. It was worth it for him being earthside but was unimaginable. One of the things is he doesn’t feel like his name. It doesn’t feel special enough, as it turns out it’s the number 1 name. I’d never heard of anyone else with this name. Maybe if it hadn’t had been number 1 it would have felt ok.

Ive read alot of name regret is tied to PND. I can’t think of any other name to call him and I don’t want to change it now. I just want to love it and use it happily with him. Well I do like other names but DH doesn’t and we have a fucking awful surname that rules out a lot of the names I did like for stupid rhyming and not sounding right with it.

So please tell me the positives about the name Noah. I don’t need to hear about him being one of 20 in his class, I am really struggling. Please be nice and only post of you can help me reframe my thinking.

Thank you

My real name was number 1 in the UK for 20+ years! It has never bothered me - it’s a beautiful name, people like it and that is why it’s popular. So there were a few of us in school, people didn’t get us confused and I didn’t feel any less special. In fact, when I meet another person with my name we always give other the nod and it’s like we’re in a club together.

Popular names are simply widely loved!

Id rather my child’s name was admired and loved by many than was unique and confusing.

greengreyblue · 26/08/2025 19:38

I work in primary school and have had one Noah in 17 years. He was lovely.

TwoUnderTwitTwoo · 26/08/2025 19:42

Noah is a wonderful name and is on our list if we have a boy! I don't know a single Noah. It’s a lovely name for a boy and a strong, classic name for a man. You have chosen well. Congratulations on your new arrival and well done! You should be so proud of yourself. I hope you get some rest x

Fluck · 26/08/2025 19:46

I have a Noah. He is the only one in his class - there are 4 Alfie’s in my other sons class! You really can’t predict, honestly try not to worry. & I’m bias but it’s a lovely name. 😊

It's gorgeous.

Such an old classic. It will never go out of fashion.

Yes! I am such a fan of a classic (classy?!) name.
Also, I’ve taught lots of Noahs and they’ve all been delightful.

Norastroud · 26/08/2025 20:02

Congratulations on your precious baby boy, I’m sorry it’s been tough for you.
Noah is a gorgeous name, with a lovely caring meaning of ‘Comfort’. It works well through all ages, I have young children & only know 2 Noah’s who are now aged 4 & 6 so I don’t think of it as popular at all! Our son has a top 10 name too & I don’t see it as a problem, they’re popular for a reason!
Also reminds me of Noah in the notebook film ❤️ take care of yourself & I hope things start to feel better soon x

Wibblywobblybobbly · 26/08/2025 20:09

I have young kids and have never met a Noah. The thing to remember is that the "top names" these days mean a lot less because of the huge variety of names in use. Back in the 80s and 90s there was less of a range of names, so being in the top 3 meant that you'd probably be one of several in your class. But now there's such a variety a name can still be top but there are less of them IYSWIM.

3ormorecharacters · 26/08/2025 20:11

There was literally no one around called Noah when I was growing up but it was always a name I loved for some reason - it's classic, Biblical, sounds nice, suits all ages, unusual (when I was young anyway). Name fashions are strange though and it turns out a lot of people in my generation felt the same! I always thought I'd name my son Noah but a close relation beat me to it.

Not sure what the point of that story is, other than to say that Noah is just a nice name that has a lot going for it, and that's why it's popular.

Also as others have said, names are so varied these days that a popular name doesn't necessarily equate to having three in each class. I know you don't want anecdotes but I'm a primary school teacher and there are no Noahs in my school currently.

namechangedforvalidreasons · 26/08/2025 20:22

Reasons to like it:

Can’t imagine a boy called Noah being a bell-end. Cannot think of any famous criminals, perverts or homicidal dictators called Noah. Noah Wyle from ER was a giant ride. Noah from the Bible was an animal welfare titan and all round Genesis g. Noah will be able purchase personalised objects with his name on in gift shops without any hassle which will mean you don’t have to look at every single fucking item in the gift shop to find something else. People will not make faces about it because it’s a biblical name and also doesn’t say anything about his background to biased people with preconceived ideas about names. He will come to define the name for you and will soon be the Noah.

Take care of yourself 🌺

💐

Great name. Not very common around here. All the Noah’s I know (2) are lovely boys.
It’s a real classic, he will never have to spell it, it’s really tasteful and doesn’t come with a stereotype.

SundayGirl86 · 26/08/2025 20:30

I love Noah! It’s a beautiful name and works for a baby, child, teenager or adult. It will never date either. It’s a great choice!

AmberBeaker · 26/08/2025 20:31

I didn't have PND but slightly regretted 2nd son's name, just thought it didn't suit and couldn't get used to it. It changed so much when I heard him say it himself for the first time. Now I love the sound of it in his adorable voice :)

Ketzele · 26/08/2025 20:31

It's a beautiful name. The year I named my dd her name was at 41 in the name charts. Within a couple of years it was top 3 and has stuck around there ever since. She is 20 now, at uni, and has never had someone with the same name in her class or friendship group. She loves her name. And I love it too because it's hers.

NatalieH2220 · 26/08/2025 20:33

One of my favourites. Perfect name for a beautiful baby boy and also a lovely name for a grown up. Great choice!

Losangeles · 26/08/2025 20:33

It’s a beautiful name OP. Even if there are lots of people with the same name take that as a compliment because it means it’s a lovely name!

It’s a powerful name

UnimaginableWindBird · 26/08/2025 20:37

I think it's a lovely name. It reminds me of Noah Wyle, who's played 2 of the best TV doctors ever in ER and The Pitt.

Athreedoorwardrobe · 26/08/2025 20:39

I think Noah is a lovely name!!
It's traditional and sturdy sounding whilst still being a little unusual and sort of mystical. So it's got it all! A good name choice.

StMarie4me · 26/08/2025 20:40

I love it. Classic and strong with a sensitive side to it. It’s a beautiful name.

Wishing you well OP. 💐

DaisyDukesAuntie · 26/08/2025 20:40

I only know one Noah - my son’s best friend. He’s a total dude!

CoffeeWithHer · 26/08/2025 20:50

I went to school with a Noah and I always thought it was a great name. Different but not unusual. And a quick google shows it’s meaning is ‘comfort’ and ‘rest’ x

You picked a great name x

Congratulations on your beautiful boy and wishing you brighter days ahead xxx

Shireslass · 26/08/2025 20:53

Noah is a beautiful name. Every Noah I have met has been a good soul. Great choice. Be kind to yourself. Naming someone is a big responsibility.

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 26/08/2025 20:53

Amazing name. If my last had been a boy I'd have tried to get my hubby to agree to it. Sounds strong and gentle at the same time.

OneWildandWonderfulLife · 26/08/2025 20:55

I am at the age now of being a great Aunt (yikes) and friends and work colleagues having children/grandchildren and I know not a single Noah, not even as a second name.

This is a real shame as I love the name Noah. If I was choosing a boys name myself, Noah would be top of my list.

Enjoy your baby, we all spend so long trying to chose a name, and then we call them by little pet names and then they go to school where their names are shortened or lengthened or just become nick names and you realise that actually non of it really matters, so long as they are just lovely people.

ChickenThigh · 26/08/2025 20:55

The few Noah’s I know are really lovely boys.
It’s a great name.
