Great suggestions everyone I still don’t feel like I’ve found one I love

OP, are there any names you quite like but aren’t ’the one’? Do you prefer longer or shorter names? Do you want a name that has an obvious nickname or shortening? Do you prefer names ending with an ‘a’ or an ‘e’ sound or would you prefer to avoid these? Do you want to avoid alliteration with your surname? If yes, what is the first letter of your surname? Do you want the name to have a special meaning? Do you prefer names from certain eras or names of a particular origin?

Just thinking that these questions may help you and may help us to give more ideas.

Ohh I like Mila

Mila is also a very popular name FYI, number 46 in 2024. Much more common than Angel or Kaia. They haven't updated it for 2024 yet but this website can help with popularity: https://names.darkgreener.com/#mila

You seem drawn to short names. I would suggest going to the ONS baby names, filtering by short names and looking under the top 500. Some suggestions for short uncommon names, but not unheard of: Vera (#722), Una (#565), Megan (#503), Renee (#516), Sage (#520), Opal (#526), Blair (#603), Jade (#638).

I've worked in schools where fairly unusual names seemed to be the norm, including Angels and Kaias. Other girls with unusual names that I came across included: Avaya, Lois, Raya, Destiny, Amara, Chanel, Paisley, Serayah, Peace, Shayla, Anaya, Malykah, Amina, Madonna, Bianca, Mairead, Leia, Elvie, Oshan, Kitty, Lyla, Rhea/Ria, Gabriella, Faith, Aysha, Persephone, Chantelle, Rosa, Nina, Hermione, Fenna, Chanise, Parise, Ciana, Ilinka, Kirsten, Tiana, Riley, Chennai, Chantal, Aurelia, Storm, Taya, Karma, Cerise, Chaide, Tigerlily, Chardonnay, etc. I am not promoting all of these as names for your impending DD, but some might be of interest to you.

With this being MN, I'm surprised that nobody has yet suggested perusing lists of Chalet Schoolgirl names... Elisaveta, Emerence or Evadne, anyone?

Avocadohoho · 17/08/2025 14:17

Mila isn’t unique in the slightest, always paired with Rose/May/Grace which just makes it dull.

I work with kids and we get a lot of Evie//Amelia/Olivia/Daisy/Poppy/Lily/Lexi/Sophie type names.

The only name I believe to be truly unique that I have ever come across is Chymme. When you google it, the girl I knew is the only person who comes up. But I don't even know if it's a real name or if her parents made it up.

Other names I've come across (not all in real life, some only in books/films/tv) that I'd consider to be highly unusual:
Aphrodite, Aphra, Amity, Amberly, Avril, Athene, Alondra, Andromeda, Ara, Aziza
Bellatrix, Belinda, Belen, Batsheva, Bluebelle
Calliope, Clea, Candida, Clarice, Caprice, Celyn, Carlotta, Christabel, Clemency
Danica, Demelza, Davina, Doria, Dakota, Darina, Devora, Delphi, Dominique
Elora, Elowen, Enya, Evadne, Elisaveta, Elianne, Eugenie, Eriskay, Elektra
Fabia, Fenella, Fiora, Fionnuala, Francine, Flavia, Felicia
Giselle, Ginevra, Guinevere, Genesis
Hebe, Hero, Hera, Hepzibah, Honor, Hosanna
Irona, Ilonka, Isolde, Iara, Ishbel, Irma, Inga, Ivana, Isis, Indiana
Jessamy, Jacinta, Jocasta, Jerica, Joelle, June, Jaime, Jovie, Josette, Juniper
Kerensa, Katinka, Kiki, Keisha, Kiran, Kendra, Keziah
Leticia, Leandra, Liara, Liora, Lettice, Lavender, Laurel, Lowen, Livia, Lux
Mala, Mika, Miranda, Mirren, Mirabelle, Melinda, Marissa, Melisande, Meloney
Nyah, Nerilly, Neriah, Nuala, Nanette, Nicolette, Nadine, Nesta
Ondine, Odette, Odille, Orianna, Oceana
Phyllis, Pandora, Paloma, Psalm, Phyllida, Posy, Pippi, Paria, Philomena
Queenie
Rivkah, Rhiannyd, Rosita, Rosina, Rowena, Raine, Raven, Richenda, Rebel
Samaris, Sixtine, Sephora, Sorcha, Story, Saffron, Samya, Samara, Star
Talitha, Tamika, Tonya, Tansy, Taryn, Trixie, Trinity, Tigerlily, Tatiania, Truly
Una, Ulrika, Ursula, Uma
Vittoria, Veda, Vashti, Viola, Velvet, Valentina, Venus
Winona, Wilhemina, Wilma
Xanthippe, Xenia
Ysanne, Yolanda, Ysabel
Zeryn, Zipporah, Zenobia, Zillah, Zelda, Zia, Zola, Zinnia

Edited

My youngest dd has a name that doesn't come up when you Google so I assume no one else has her name, both dds have names that were less than 3 of in the year they were born. One possibly unique, the other definitely rare.

This is a good list if that's the sort of uncommon you're looking for, I'd say Mila is not rare or uncommon though....
