No.

Boudiccabitch · 14/08/2025 03:36

No new suggestions, just opinions on this name!

It is a lovely name but resonates with Poldark's maid he got up the duff and Dawn French saying 'hello my lurvver' in exaggerated Cornish accent. However, this shows my age! I doubt any peer groups (your current, her future) would clock on so go ahead!

TurnThatLightOn · 14/08/2025 03:39

I love it.

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 14/08/2025 03:40

Ooh, just noticed your user name - GO for it!!

TurnThatLightOn · 14/08/2025 03:42

I love it notwithstanding the connection to Poldark

wildeflowers · 14/08/2025 03:52

I think it’s cool, unique, and names with a ‘z’ are fun.

Boudiccabitch · 14/08/2025 03:54

The Poldark thing is alright I think, as another poster has said that only matters for that generation (who even watched the show(!)), however she does seem like a cool character!
Can you comment on if you love it or not and what vibe you got from it? I don't want to say the name in the future and get looks of WTF 👀

I'm so ancient that I read the books - and a bit dodgy given her age when she entered into 'service'! However, she was of an acceptable age when she succumbed. The only thing I would really consider re choosing a name (in all cases) would be possible acronyms when including a middle name and surname e.g Demelza India Knight.

Oh! I didn't realise about that!
All good on the acronym/initial front 🙏

It’s too Poldark and also a bit too close to dementia

HedgeWitchOfTheWest · 14/08/2025 06:15

It’s a lovely Cornish name! I know several women named Demelza; some go by Demi, which is lovely. I’ve never seen Poldark, so don’t know that connection.

Goandygo · 14/08/2025 06:22

I love it.
Refreshingly different for me.

Linguist1979 · 14/08/2025 06:24

I know a baby called Demelza and I had never heard if before. It’s the ugliest name I’ve ever heard! It’s a no!

Radiowaawaa · 14/08/2025 06:26

I know a few Demelzas of various ages (I’m in Cornwall). It’s gorgeous although not sure how it would work out of Cornwall?

ExistentialThreat · 14/08/2025 06:27

Love it. Old, classic Cornish name. Similar vibes to Lamorna. Go for it!

TulipCat · 14/08/2025 06:28

Sounds like a witch.

WutheringBites · 14/08/2025 06:29

Are you Cornish or do you have Cornish links? I know a few older women with the name, but they are all from Cornwall and live down here.
if not, your child will be haunted by people asking about Cornish links IME.
Also - I’ve not checked - but what does it mean?

Geneticsbunny · 14/08/2025 06:31

I like it

GivingUpFinally · 14/08/2025 06:34

Sounds like a skin condition

Navigatinglife100 · 14/08/2025 07:04

Lovely, if the child is Cornish or has Cornish connections.

Otherwise it's a bit like you've just taken it from the TV.

Blobbitymacblob · 14/08/2025 07:07

There was a Poldark remake in 2015 so it’s not exactly ancient history.

Why? You have Welsh/Irish/French etc names out of those places?
