Baby girl names… peach?

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

I just immediately think of poor Peaches Geldof when I read your post. It has such horrible associations now as Peaches Geldof was so famous and her heroin overdose at age 25 was just so horrendously tragic.

I teach in a school, I hear lots of names and I must say, I’m not personally a fan of the name “Peach” … I think it would garner a lot of eye brow raising and “that poor child being lumbered with a name like that” kind of comments in the staff room. Not necessarily from me but as I say, I’m equally not a fan of it. I think it just doesn’t sound like a name for a human, maybe a new dating app? “Try Peach - for some Sweet introductions” or a lingerie range? “Reach for Peach - lingerie you will really love to squeeze into!”
Enjoy your new little baby Op and best of luck deciding on a name - you’ve certainly got us all thinking anyway!!

Thank you! I’m sure she’ll be perfect whatever name I decide to give her. X

Peach could be like Cherry, bursting with ripeness etc so not seen only as a cute girlie name. I think just keep Peach but choose a more traditional // common middle name that she can change to as teenager if not brave enough.

Again I’m not sure why a peach has to be sexualised but that’s just me. A bum would never come to my mind.

Real life context does matter though - My mum thinks people are being silly when it comes to the aubergine 🍆, but that doesn't mean I don't snigger when she says she's have 🍆 for dinner. Peaches is better than Peach in that sense.

I'd go for a nice longer Spanish-ish name, but I have one (3 syllables) and I'm very happy with it! I suspect the ones your partner knows might be Magdalena in full?

TiredMummma · 14/08/2025 18:18

Lena is a lovely name, not that common. Call her Lena

TiredMummma · 14/08/2025 18:36

Also I have an unusual name, only one in the word, and absolutely hate it. Think it’s ridiculous to think that just because she is wanted and might be well brought up, that she will be happy with an unusual name. It’s just not true, it hard to be bullied and hard to be a teen anyway. Peaches will have connotations in a British school of a butt.

Surely people should be taught not to judge someone on a name no?

But you do…you’ve stated that you judge Kayden/ Jayden more than once. Of course people judge names. Humans judge. It’s innate. It in fact helps us survive - we make assumptions and snap judgements that allow us to make decisive actions.

It just makes me think of a bum

Crunchymum · 14/08/2025 19:02

Lena isn't common?

OneTwoThreeSneeze · 14/08/2025 19:31

I'd call her a more regular name beginning with P on the birth certificate (Penny?) and you can always call her Peach day to day if you like it.

JMSA · 14/08/2025 20:34

Teacher here. I’ve taught both primary and secondary and have never encountered a Lena.

LancashireButterPie · 14/08/2025 20:38

Lyra?

Autie · 14/08/2025 20:49

Another ex-teacher here who also spent 15 years working in a hospital. Never met a Lena and I must have met thousands of people in my two careers. Not sure where you're from that that's a common name.

My son's name was in the top 30 when he was born and never met another child with the same name and he's been to 3 schools now.

Fifth person to say poor child now. My child will be loved and cared for, there will be nothing poor about her. Work on your word delivery in future.

Paloma was on my list but her Spanish father informed me that it was Spanish for pigeon and dove

Edited

Pigeons and doves are beautiful, although pigeons are much maligned. I’d like Paloma more for learning that 😊

I don’t like Peach much, but with some people choosing less traditional names for their children nowadays I hope kids will be much more accepting of the unusual ones.

Eenameenadeeka · 15/08/2025 09:32

I really don't think Lena is that common? Id much rather be called Lena.

MKDex · 15/08/2025 09:41

How about Patchouli

MellersSmellers · 15/08/2025 10:14

No, don't do that to her.

No i mean the words i said!!! Your child will be bullied and made fun of being named after a fruit!! Please give the child a proper name, please dont set her up for a life of ridicule!

Cheeky19863 · 15/08/2025 10:35

Would you name her banana? I doubt it so why would you name her peach? 🤣

I mean firstly, I’ll do what I like and secondly maybe children should be taught not to be horrible little scrotes.

It’s apparently very common in Spain, her Spanish grandmother is friends with about five of them

I sort of get it because I secretly love Lemon for a girl but would never be brave enough to use it!

I love lemon, that would be great. Peach not so much, just feels a bit porny and tacky

LemonTreeCafe · 15/08/2025 11:08

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:59

thank you everyone for your responses. I would like to think that not everyone would be as shallow to judge her on her name when she’s older and instead judge her on how kind/caring/professional (I’m hoping) she’ll be.

Edited

You’ve just judged Jayden!
