Out of curiosity what age are the Emilys you know? Any over the age of 40?

I’m looking for a truly timeless simple name and Emily seems to be a popular suggestion for that style on here. I weirdly didn’t know any Emily’s growing up but I guess it makes sense according to the ons it seemed to peak after I was born. It seemed to have had a big moment in 90s/2000s so I would guess most were in their late teens and early 20s now.

I was just curious if you know any older Emily’s just so I can properly gage if it’s truly timeless or not?

HansHolbein · 24/07/2025 19:46

I know one who is 40 and one who is 35.

blacklabradorsandchilledrose · 24/07/2025 19:46

Ohmych · 24/07/2025 19:46

I know one that is early 20s

mygrandchildrenrock · 24/07/2025 19:46

My wonderful Daughter-in-Law is an Emily and she is early 40s. I think Emily is a beautiful, timeless, classic name. I have taught some younger Emily’s and always thought how lovely the name is.

BarnacleBeasley · 24/07/2025 19:46

I'm in my 40s and there was an Emily in my class at school.

NoweverytimeIgoforthemailbox · 24/07/2025 19:46

All primary school aged. I did teach some who will be around 25 now.

Ilovegoldies · 24/07/2025 19:47

I'm 53 and there was an Emily in my class. There weren't many others (if any) in my year but no one thought it was a particularly odd name like they might have done with Enid or Ethel.

blacklabradorsandchilledrose · 24/07/2025 19:47

Also a LOT of my mid-teens DD’s friends are called Emily!

CharlotteFlax · 24/07/2025 19:47

The one I know who put me off the name forever would be about 50 now.

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/07/2025 19:48

I know one who’s maybe 40, a couple mid/late 30s, a couple primary school age. I’d put it in the timeless camp.

Pinty · 24/07/2025 19:48

I know two one is 34 the other is late 30s.
I am 69 when I was young Emily was considered an old person's name . There was an older character in Coronation Street called Emily Bishop. But that changed in the 80a/90s when it became very popular again.I think it's considered pretty timeless now

itsonlyjoan · 24/07/2025 19:49

My daughter emily is 9

Reallywittyusername · 24/07/2025 19:49

It was reasonably common in my era (born early 80s) and there were a lot about 10 - 15 years ago too.

But I do know one who is 70+! She goes by Emmo

gingercat02 · 24/07/2025 19:49

I know a 54yo Emily and one in her early 30s

DiscoBob · 24/07/2025 19:50

It was mega common when I was in school in the 80s-90s. So people who would be 40-50 odd now.
I think it was popular 20 odd years ago also as I know a couple in their early 20s.

silverspringer · 24/07/2025 19:50

I know Emilys in their 50s, 40s, 30s and late teens.

keeponrunning85 · 24/07/2025 19:51

I am an Emily who is 40. There were about 5 other Emilys in my year at school

goudacheese · 24/07/2025 19:51

Emily Brontë, Emily Blunt, both over 40.

Sassybooklover · 24/07/2025 19:51

My SIL is an Emily and she's 48!

NicolaCasanova · 24/07/2025 19:52

At uni in the UK, we had seminars in a group which had 9 girls, 2 are named Emily. No other name was repeated. We are all born in 1981.

My best friend’s sister is called Emily; born in 1983.

When I went to summer camp in the U.K., there were 2 Emilys, both my age (1981).

WellyBellyBoo · 24/07/2025 19:53

One in 30s, one 40s, one 50s

sciaticafanatica · 24/07/2025 19:54

My daughter is Emily and she’s in her 30’s
i know one other who is 2

DejaMooo · 24/07/2025 19:54

I know two Emily’s in their early 40s, one Emily who is 19 and one Emily in my daughter’s reception class. Was on my shortlist for my second daughter who is due in two weeks as I love the name, but my husband wasn’t keen sadly.

PorridgeAndSyrup · 24/07/2025 19:54

I had a great aunt called Emily. She'd be in her 90s now if she was still alive.

I also always think of Emily Bishop off of Corrie. Google tells me she'd be 93 now.
