Out of curiosity what age are the Emilys you know? Any over the age of 40?

I’m looking for a truly timeless simple name and Emily seems to be a popular suggestion for that style on here. I weirdly didn’t know any Emily’s growing up but I guess it makes sense according to the ons it seemed to peak after I was born. It seemed to have had a big moment in 90s/2000s so I would guess most were in their late teens and early 20s now.

I was just curious if you know any older Emily’s just so I can properly gage if it’s truly timeless or not?

There was an Emily at school when I was there, she would be in her late 60s.

TheShusher · 24/07/2025 22:08

28, 21 and 4

Where I lived when I was very little there was a baby Emily - I guess she'd be somewhere between about 50 and 55 now. She had a sister called Harriet which I'd say was also ahead of its time. I know one other Emily in her 50s but she's Canadian. I know a few who might be in their early 40s (but don't really know them well enough to ask) and one who I know for sure is 35, but a lot more in their 20s.

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/07/2025 23:03

I know 12 over 18; 2 under 18 🤷‍♀️

ninjahamster · 24/07/2025 23:04

I only know one, she is 53.

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/07/2025 23:04

And the over 18s are between 18 and 40

Mumofyellows · 24/07/2025 23:06

Yeah I have a friend named Emily who is my age at 43.

Allswellthatendswelll · 24/07/2025 23:08

I know one who is 20s, one 40s and one one year old. It's definitely having a comeback.

DelphiniumBlue · 24/07/2025 23:11

I've had at least one Emily in every year group I've taught for the last 15 years.
Before that, I think Emma was more common than Emily. I know one Emily who is about 50 now, and there are a few famous Emilys ( Maitlis/Blunt/Thornberry) of about the same age.
There are also plenty of girls named Amelie/Amelia/Emilia in primary school and secondary school now.

Christwosheds · 24/07/2025 23:11

I know one born in the 70s, and one born in the early 2000s It was also my Grandmother’s name, she was born in the early 1900s.

Theimpossiblegirl · 24/07/2025 23:12

All ages, best friend about to turn 50 and a couple in my year 4 class this year. It's timeless.

Marble10 · 24/07/2025 23:12

I know a few Emily’s but the oldest being 38, all others in their 30s and one in 20s. Haven’t heard of any young Emily’s through DCs school/groups weirdly.

HadEnoughOfBears · 24/07/2025 23:19

I know 3 Emilys. One is 46, one is 21 and the other is 14

angelco · 24/07/2025 23:23

I know one Emily that’s 13
and another who’s 38.

hcarter8 · 24/07/2025 23:33

Thank you for the replies. I was struggling to imagine Emily on an older woman after looking at the statistics but it from your comments there’s quite a few. Emily didn’t join the top 100 again until the 70s after dropping out in the 1900s so I wasn’t expecting those replies but i’m pleasantly surprised. It could be a regional thing as my mum is born in the 60s and told me that emily was a rare old fashioned upper class name when she was a child🤷‍♀️

The Emilys I know are aged 14, 29, 39, 40

scaredfriend · 24/07/2025 23:35

I personally know Emilys / Emilies in their 90s, 50s, 40s and 20s

LucasBuck · 24/07/2025 23:40

Yes, I’ve met two Emily’s who would now be their early 40’s (my peer group, although obviously it was never as commonplace as names like Catherine, Sarah, Laura etc when I was at school and uni). I suspect Emily is like Charlotte, Anna etc - not super popular with the over 40’s but you always meet one or two. That’s the benefit of these classic names - even if there are lots more younger ones about now, they still don’t feel faddy imo.

Waitingfordoggo · 24/07/2025 23:41

I know a late 40s Emily. Also one in her 30s, one in her teens and a few little ones!

Ariela · 24/07/2025 23:50

I am mid 60s and there was an Emily in my year.

Louise/Louisa is another timeless sort of name. I know two under 10, still popular but not as popular as it was 65 years ago. I would say Louisa has gone up and Louise down in popularity in that time.

Jux · 24/07/2025 23:53

My bf’s sister is an Emily. She must be about 60 as I and bf are 67.

Tarkan · 25/07/2025 02:47

It was my gran’s name. She’d have been well over 100 if she was still alive now.

48mumof6 · 26/07/2025 06:59

My daughter is Emily she is 26, after I had her my elderly neighbour asked her name and when I told she smiled and said that’s my name! It was also my nan’s middle name.

HazeyjaneIII · 26/07/2025 07:18

I'm in my mid 50s and have 2 friends similar ages, called Emily... one was named after Emily Bronte and the other's parents were Pink Floyd fans... I think it's a pretty timeless name.

WorkCleanRepeat · 26/07/2025 07:21

I know some in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's

(I don't know very many people older than their 50's)
