Vivienne is lovely - the others are not my taste but not too old fashioned.

AnotherEmily · 12/07/2025 12:13

Vivienne will become Viv - that would put me off. It’s lovely otherwise.

Maud and Rita are too old fashioned for me but I like Veda - we had a neighbour called this but I otherwise have never met anyone called it, olderbor otherwise.

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/07/2025 12:14

Maud is too much for me but others are ok I think. I know a little Rita and a little Vivienne!

I don't like any of them I afraid. If I had to pick i would choose Maud, but the Maudlin connection put me off.

Rita is a 80 year old heavy smoker
Vivienne (Viv) the same but also Vivian from the Young Ones
Vodafone I've never heard of

Love that autocorrect 😄

Ddakji · 12/07/2025 12:17

Rita Skeeter. Don’t do it!

I think Maud and Vivienne will be much liked among the “name your child from an old people’s home” middle class crowd, but Maud is just quite ugly-sounding and while Vivienne is nice, I really don’t like Viv.

Veda sounds quite harsh to me though I don’t actually know how it’s meant to be pronounced! Vay-dah? Vee-dah? Veh-dah?

Vivienne is beautiful, the rest are ok.

Agree. Vivienne is pretty and timeless in my opinion. The others are dated and I’m not a lover of Maud, it makes me think of elderly aunts with thin faces.

ballettap · 12/07/2025 12:23

I don't like Maud, always makes me think of mud!

I do know 2 Vivienne's under the age of 10 and I think it's a beautiful name.

Rita automatically makes me think if Coronation Street and I don't even watch it 😂

I like Veda.

Miyagi99 · 12/07/2025 12:25

Love Maud!

DurhamDurham · 12/07/2025 12:26

Maud and Veda are lovely, they both go well with your surname.

🤣🤣 Rita an 80 year old smoker, I'd have to agree.
I'm not keen Maud or Veda, but think Vivienne goes beautifully with your surname.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter a jot what we think, your baby your choice. Whatever you call her, some people will love the name, some will dislike it, as evidenced here.

Walyalup · 12/07/2025 12:32

Veda is the name of the awful, horrible daughter in Mildred Pierce, and I can't get past that! Vivienne is OK. The other two are just not particularly nice.

Herewegoagain8 · 12/07/2025 12:36

I love Vivienne. Rita just makes me think of coronation street and I find Maud a bit harsh but I usually really like short names.
Not heard of Veda.

Vivienne is beautiful and goes well with your surname.

iseethembloom · 12/07/2025 12:39

Maude (with an e) and Vivienne are beautiful.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 12/07/2025 12:39

Rita feels dated, the others are already back or at least on the cusp ie I see them mentioned on these boards.

Maud is the only one I personally like. I know a couple young ones.

Fencingpost · 12/07/2025 12:48

Maud(e) makes me think of Norman England, so goes well with Blanchard and I personally really like it. I also knew a French Vivienne who was beautiful and I associate the name with this.
The problem with names is everyone has a preconceived association or has never heard of the name!

IglesiasPiggl · 12/07/2025 12:49

Maud and Rita are two mates who meet at the hairdresser every Saturday to get their blue rinse done. Vivienne is a bit less dated though.

MaloryJones · 12/07/2025 12:53

Vivienne Blanchard sounds lovely

Embarrassinglyuseless · 12/07/2025 12:54

I like them all! We have a Vivienne - she’s called vivi at home and school. Zero regrets - we love her name!

LollyWillow · 12/07/2025 12:55

I'm not keen on Rita, but that's because I'm older and remember women of my Mother's generation with the name. The other's are all lovely and go really well with the surname. I quite wish I was called Vivienne Blanchard ! Wonderful name.

tinyspiny · 12/07/2025 13:00

Vivienne is the only one I would use but I dislike Viv as a shortening , Veda is ok but I think you’ll get problems with people knowing how you pronounce it . Maud and Rita are dreadful and frumpy sounding .

TiswasPhantomFlanFlinger · 12/07/2025 13:07

I think Maud to too hard sounding and very frumpy.
i like the others especially Vivienne.

Herecomethedaffodils · 12/07/2025 13:09

The name ‘Vida’ is used a lot in Spanish and Portuguese cultures and is from the Latin meaning ‘life’. Also used in Wales. It’s pronounced Vee-dah.

hattie43 · 12/07/2025 13:10

Maud is cute , don’t like the others I’m afraid

WaltzingWaters · 12/07/2025 13:16

Veda is lovely and If your grandmother was Veda I’d go for that. I’ve not heard it before so quite an unusual one with a lovely personal connection.

Seems I’m in the minority but Maud sounds really awful IMO.

Whilst not my style, the others are okay, but Veda gets my vote.

TubeScreamer · 12/07/2025 13:18

I like Veda best but Vivienne works best with your surname.
