Taisa/Taissa.

I will tell you how I would want it pronounced once I have a few replies. Trying to gauge how complicated/annoying a name it would be.

Either Tazer (Tay Sa) or Tizer (Ty Sa)

Oh I like Zoya and that seems like a name impossible to pronounce wrong. Inessa is good too (emphasis in a different place is the issue with my DD's name and its not jarring like a completely wrong pronunciation). Solomiia/solomiya seems to me to have at least two different possible pronunciations, at least the Solomiya spelling but sounds like a lovely name.

It's Sol-Oh-Mia. Ukrainian form of Salomé meaning peace. Zoya is the Ukrainian version of Zoe. And Inessa is Ines/Inés/Agnes.

Taysa

Needlenardlenoo · 30/04/2025 10:42

Depends if it's a dipthong or not doesn't it? No way of working that out from the spelling.

UnPetitCochon · 30/04/2025 11:29

There is an actress called Taissa Farmiga. According the Google it’s pronounced Tah-EE-suh. Which I think sounds lovely!

mummysmagicmedicine · 30/04/2025 11:36

Tie sah

Thanks everyone. It's basically as I expected.

It's a Ukrainian name, Cyrillic spelling is Таїса. I've seen it transcribed with s or ss. (There's an actress with the Taissa spelling)
Actual pronunciation is Ta-ee-sa - the isa at the end is pronounced as in Lisa.

For context: I have Ukrainian heritage and my first daughter has a Ukrainian name (but with a more obvious pronunciation) and we're debating whether to go with another Ukrainian name but there aren't too many that I love. My first choice would have been Larissa but my partner doesn't like it.

I think it's a lovely name and I would stick to the Cyrillic spelling as then people will just ask how to pronounce it rather than making up what they think is right.

Reddelilah · 30/04/2025 15:02

I’d say Ta ee sa

3 syllables

I do like Zoya it looks feminine and elegant - and there would be no problems with pronunciation Smile

I was given a straightforward, mainstream, four letter name by my parents. I moved abroad aged 18 and found no one was able to spell it or pronounce it ever again.

Since my dc had multiple heritages, I drove myself crazy choosing names that could be pronounced in all 3 languages. I chose really simple, straightforward names with phonics that work for all of them.

They are constantly misspelt and mispronounced. I was moaning about this to a friend, who told me he was English living in England, and his surname was misspelt one time in three. It is Alexander!

Choose the name you love OP. No one will be saying it as often as you will be until your dc has a family of their own, and by then they can change it if they don't like it.

MikeRafone · 30/04/2025 18:41

Tay i sa

Chiangmymy · 30/04/2025 19:17

Different pronunciation for each spelling: Ty-eesa / Tay-sa
