What do you think about Anna? It’s my favourite girls name but wanted views from others too.

I can see why it’s liked and I definitely don’t dislike it but I don’t think I would choose it

WtafIsThat · 26/04/2025 16:54

It’s lovely and makes a change from the endless Avas and Evies.

ApricotCityLimits · 26/04/2025 17:24

Lovely, simple and elegant name

Babygirlmamahere · 26/04/2025 17:36

I love it, it's a beautiful name.

InsertUsernameHereeee · 26/04/2025 17:41

Lovely name and also love Hannah.

MiddleAgedDread · 26/04/2025 17:43

The only Anna's I know are awful people and I know 5

On that basis it's a no from me

Same.

I've yet to meet one that isn't an utter c*nt. I know 4.

Lascivious · 26/04/2025 17:47

Absolutely love it. Classy, elegant and timeless.

Whilst it's not a personal favourite of mine, I do like a classic name. Recognised internationally, easy to pronounce and spell, will never raise an eyebrow or instantly give away her age. It ticks lots of boxes. So what if other people might find it bland? What would be bland and boring is if we all liked the same names.

Go with what you love.

Agree with this. Not one that would make it to my shortlist, but a perfectly lovely name.

Id rather give my child a name that was possibly a little bland or dated than something electrifyingly original and cringe.

Bythewayimgoingouttonight · 26/04/2025 17:50

It’s beautiful. I have an Auntie Anna, now in her 70’s. My gran told me that she named her Anna as she thought it would be easy for her to spell as it’s the same backwards and forwards 🤣. It is my absolute favourite girls name though and I would do anything for that to be my name instead of the one I’ve got 😆

beautiful.

Rockmehardplace · 26/04/2025 18:03

I don't normally like the kind of names beloved by Mumsnet but I adore Anna. Beautiful, classy name and all the Anna's I've known have been anything but bland & boring!

CurlewKate · 26/04/2025 18:03

I prefer Anne myself-but only because I was brought up in a country which pronounces both Ns in Anna, so the English way sounds wrong to me. But this will be an incredibly minority view!

Like Banana?
Which country is this so I can envisage it?

I actually can’t do it without inserting a vowel …

Sundappledlawn · 26/04/2025 18:07

I love the name Anna.

Movile · 26/04/2025 18:13

Thank you all for the mixed opinions. Great to hear from both sides and I’ll be sticking with the name choice.

Malta in my case. But Spain and Italy and lots of places pronounce it An-na too. Not Anna.

Agree!

BumbleBeegu · 26/04/2025 18:27

Has to be the most perfect name 💖💖

Dull as ditchwater to me, I'm afraid.

Why does a name have to be all sparkly lights and fireworks? A child’s personality is what should shine out, not its name.
