Gave birth to a lovely baby boy four days ago. Thrilled to bits but poor little DS still has no name. We’ve really struggled to narrow down the names this pregnancy so thought we’d wait until he was born to pick a name, but he doesn’t look like any particular name? We’ve got 10 on our shortlist but just can’t seem to make a decision. Please help! Big sister is Elizabeth.
Options for this baby are:
Nathaniel
Philip
August
George
Tobias
Alexander
Monty
Lachlan
Charlie
Micah

of your final list I like Nathaniel best

CeaselesslyIntoThePast · 24/04/2025 23:08

George 100%

SallySummerPop · 24/04/2025 23:10

George or Alexander are nice 🙂

Velvetbee · 24/04/2025 23:27

Alexander

Roseinbloom20 · 24/04/2025 23:32

Tobias (Toby) has my vote! George is too popular and I personally don’t like the other options. Just to shake things up - I’ve always loved the name James for a boy 💙 I have two boys and have said if I ever had a 3rd I’d name him James nickname Jamie - but I am definitely projecting 🙈

Alistair?

gertrudebiggles · 24/04/2025 23:42

Philip, Charlie or George with Elizabeth is way too royal.

Nathaniel (Nate for short) or Alexander would be my choice.

Micah and Elizabeth don't sound right together, just such different vibes

While Pip is cute Philip is horribly dated and having an Elizabeth and Philip would be weird IMO.
I agree with others and like Alexander best.

I have a Philip, always Phil, his brother is Matthew, always Matt, 37, and 34

Thanks so much everyone! We’ve decided to go with August Alexander 😀

Tobias and Alexander

gillybombilly · 25/04/2025 00:27

Sorry, just realised you’ve chosen 😊

HouseCaptain · 25/04/2025 00:29

Nathaniel - Nate is a cool shortening.

LilyJosephine · 25/04/2025 05:00

The obvious one to go for I suppose is George (due to various Royal links) but for me it’s got to be Alexander of your picks - same aristocratic elegance as Elizabeth, same length and syllables, same popular yet timeless style, lots of nickname choice just like his sisters name… to me they are a very obvious pairing.

2nd choice would be Nathaniel- I like the similar Biblical style to Elizabeth, and the length/syllables and again that it’s timeless and elegant. My only hesitation is that it’s not as popular as Alexander or Elizabeth (it can be fun getting stuff with your name on it and means it’s less likely for a name to be misspelled too) and the lack of nickname choice.

3rd choice Tobias (for similar reasons to Nathaniel).

I assume you’ve discounted other Royal or Biblical names like William, James, Edward, Thomas, Benjamin etc? - all popular sibset choices for Elizabeth

ETA: Missed that you’d gone for August Alexander. Congrats!

mummysmagicmedicine · 25/04/2025 13:03

congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!

Does Elizabeth go by any nicknames or the full Elizabeth?
I think Nathaniel, Alexander and August work best and they have nickname potential which may help steer you to/from some of them.
Nathaniel- Nathan, Nate
Alexander- Alex, Al, Ally, Xander
August- Auggie, Gus

Reddelilah · 25/04/2025 13:33

August Alexander is perfect!
