Gave birth to a lovely baby boy four days ago. Thrilled to bits but poor little DS still has no name. We’ve really struggled to narrow down the names this pregnancy so thought we’d wait until he was born to pick a name, but he doesn’t look like any particular name? We’ve got 10 on our shortlist but just can’t seem to make a decision. Please help! Big sister is Elizabeth.
Options for this baby are:
Nathaniel
Philip
August
George
Tobias
Alexander
Monty
Lachlan
Charlie
Micah

I love August!

AdaColeman · 24/04/2025 20:24

Tobias is my favourite from your list, with Lachlan a close second.

August if my least favourite.

roshi42 · 24/04/2025 20:26

I like Alexander best and prefer Xander or Lex as nicknames.

BumbleBeegu · 24/04/2025 20:29

Not Charlie or Philip…as others have said, it’s too royal family.

Alexander is lovely…with Xander as a nickname rather than Alex.

Not at all keen on any of your other names OP, sorry.

Feelinglikeadiv · 24/04/2025 20:37

Ok so you've narrowed it down to Philip, August and George.

I wouldn't go Philip and Elizabeth, good name but bit tribute -like? Plus he will probably revert to Phil. Don't pick on the strength of Pip.

August. I don't love. I prefer Angus (are you Scottish re Lachlan?)

George is a good classic name.

Alexander, great but if you really dislike Alex, probably best to avoid.

Not Monty, that's regrettable.

Micah, Michael is better. Nathaniel is not to my taste.

WitcheryDivine · 24/04/2025 20:37

Charlie is lovely, although Elizabeth and Charles also sounds v royal. Same goes for any of William, Harry, Andrew, Edward and Phillip.

You can’t call him Alexander or Tobias if you don’t like the nicknames, But you could do Xander on its own?

other royalish names not quite so direct to Elizabeth:

James
Louis
Alber
George (already on your list)
Leopold?!
Frederick
Henry

Reddelilah · 24/04/2025 21:13

I would definitely avoid Alexander if you dislike Alex because that’s the most natural and intuitive shortening. I also don’t like it much mainly because it’s so popular (for men & women)

chicke09 · 24/04/2025 21:14

Nathaniel Alexander

hattie43 · 24/04/2025 21:18

Alexander would be my choice

shoopshoopdedoo · 24/04/2025 21:20

Alexander is my favourite
George is close second

midlifeattheoasis · 24/04/2025 21:25

GEORGE

Todayupstairs · 24/04/2025 21:31

Do you shorten Elizabeth?

For me that would determine my choice now, a name that can or cannot be shortened.

My favourite Alexander, is Xan.
Xan and Liz/Lizzie would be fab as would Lizzy and Nat.

If you don't shorten Elizabeth, then Alexander/Nathaniel are unlikely to be shortened either.

What about other names.
Albert or Cuthbert ( Lizzie and Bertie is cute!)
Sebastian

DD is Elizabeth 50% of the time and Beth the other 50% of the time. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think our final shortlist is George, Alexander, August and Nathaniel; it’s such a difficult decision!!

I have an Alfred. Was told that it'd be impossible not to expect it to be shorted at school, but went with it anyway.

He's now 18 and still known as Alfred.

I like Nathaniel (Nat (not Nate) for short if needs be)

Congratulations 🎉

PenguinLover24 · 24/04/2025 21:42

Nathaniel or Alexander! Congratulations! X

TheeNotoriousPIG · 24/04/2025 21:48

Alexander is my favourite from your list! Congratulations on your new baby, OP, and I hope that your Elizabeth has settled into the role of big sister already!

Sailawaygirl · 24/04/2025 21:51

August!! I that's a lovely name!

Beth and Bertie, even cuter …( only from my own suggested names!😊)

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/04/2025 22:21

I love August. But definitely Alexander or possibly George to go with Elizabeth!

TomatoSandwiches · 24/04/2025 19:06

What about Owen? Can't shorten Owen.

The one I know is known as ‘O’

My favourite is Nathaniel but I like Nate

elliesmummy19 · 24/04/2025 22:23

Congratulations!
Alexander, George and Charlie are my favourites

NestOfWipers · 24/04/2025 22:26

Absolutely not Philip.

I like Nate, not Nathaniel, but you don't so that rules it out for me

Alexander would be okay as Elizabeth is an Elizabeth or Beth not Liz or Lizzie

I like George and Charlie, but I'm not keen on the others.

Whichever you choose will be perfect and exactly the right name for him. I'm surprised Elizabeth hasn't given him a ame already.l!!

Pinkyhere · 24/04/2025 22:30

I know a Nathaniel who has the nn Tanner
And and Alexander who is zander most of the time
Congratulations

Newnameforaday88 · 24/04/2025 22:38

I love Micah from your list.
Alexander is also gorgeous and goes really well with Elizabeth.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 24/04/2025 23:06

Elizabeth and Tobias
