Ashton or Carter for Boy? Or alternative similar suggestions please

Me and DH are having trouble naming our son - I liked Ashton he doesn’t, he likes Carter but I’m not sold on it.

Therefore (frustratingly!), we may go back to the drawing board, I’m asking for help - what do you think of these names?

And also, does anyone have any other suggestions of one or two syllable names?

Thanks!

Both are surnames, so maybe something like Hudson, Hunter, Casey, Dexter, Baxter, Cooper, Chester, Lincoln, Asher?

I don't particularly like that style of name.

I prefer Ashton of the 2 but neither totally my style. Some good suggestions above. How about also: Austin, Blake, Jackson, Colton, Mason, Brody, Riley, Parker

Roselilly36 · 13/04/2025 18:44

I like both of those choices, I also rather like Austen

I just googled Cameron and don’t like that it means ‘crooked nose’ in Gaelic 😔

Austin is better than Austen. Every Cameron I know is Cam, and it is 3 syllables not the 1 or 2 OP asked for.

That will never be an issue. I know several Cameron's and that has never come up.

What about Callum (means dove), Conner (lover of hounds) instead?

Helleborer · 13/04/2025 20:26

Neither, they’re both chavvy boyband names.

What happened to nice names like Benjamin, Christopher or David? I hate this trend of yoonique American surnames, they’re awful.

At a push names like Jesse, Roman or Felix are ok, but all these surname names like Harrison and Greyson are going to date horribly.

in theory I have no skin in the game, but I’m an 80s child with an awful fashionable 80s dated name that was considered cool, so I feel irrationally annoyed by name posts that mean the children are going to be eventually left cringing.

Cameron is my favourite out of your choices. The other two sound American. Are you in the UK?
