I know someone who called their daughter Ember

Amber is far nicer IMO

I prefer Vladivistok!

Amber is a lovely name (see my profile)

I asked the South African teacher at school how she'd say DD's name & she said Amber just like I would - but when I told her about this thread she was a bit shocked as she realised that when she first came to England she would have said Ember - she hadn't really believed her family last time she went home & they told her how much her accent had changed.

I'm afraid I would struggle to restrain a double-take if someone told me their name was Ember. I would assume they meant Amber, and I'm not very keen on either myself. It has to be said though that I'm quite limited on name perception.

Solid and warm.... how about...

I love the name Ember.
I met a little girl called Ember last year on my hols, think she was Romany. She was gorgeous and really suited her name.
Use it if you love it so much.

Lilac?

I quite like it but agree most people would hear the name as Amber. Embers have a resiliance to them, they fight, they are the remains of the flames before them. Embers can also relight fires, there is an energy to them.

I think some of the above comments are rather rude and think compared to MANY names, this one is much nicer, and also interesting/different.

My MIL's cat is called Ember - named by yours truely. She is grey with bits of cream and pink - truely a beautiful coloured cat. I thought Ember was a great name as she looked like dying Embers. Surprise, surprise.

I actually quite like it as a name for a girl.

May be totally off track here, but I really like Slyvie and Storm. Also quite like Misty. Willow and Misty sound lovely.

CrankOfTheScrew · 02/10/2009 22:33

Aah, I like it. A little glowing light when all others have faded.
