Is this TOO old-fashioned?

Is the name 'Christopher' a bit too old-fashioned and Boomer-ish? Generally I like 'classic' names but I guess that some can be a bit much...

I love Christopher and think it's a classic name. We are expecting our third which we have just found out is a girl but had she been a boy she would have been Christopher

HousedInMySoul · 27/03/2025 19:54

Sounds like a normal name to me. I think I'm generation x. It would also sound like a normal name to a "boomer" I think though, horrifically 😱🙄

LSGXX · 27/03/2025 19:54

It’s lovely!
I think of Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh

Fagli · 27/03/2025 19:55

It’s a very normal name, as long as you’re happy with ‘Chris’!

Greenwoodplate · 27/03/2025 19:56

Totally normal name

Mylegishangingoff · 27/03/2025 19:56

I like it. My teenage crush in secondary was a Christopher. I think it's one of those names thats always around and doesn't go in or out of fashion iykwim.

PeppermintPatty10 · 27/03/2025 19:56

It's lovely! A solid classic. Traditional but youthful - please use it! I know one little boy called Christopher and always thought its a nice name.
Also it's not overused so he won't be in a class with loads of other Christophers.

ScentOfAMoomin · 27/03/2025 19:56

Very normal name, I know two aged 30. Younger ones currently seem to go with Kit as the short form, which is also lovely

hennybeans · 27/03/2025 19:58

I love this name and wanted it for my ds with the nickname Kit. But dh wasn’t keen. To be fair, I don’t think I’ve ever met a Christopher born after the 80s. It should be more popular!

AdaColeman · 27/03/2025 20:01

It's a great name, with some nickname possibilities if that's important to you, Kit or the more unusual Topher!

MayaPinion · 27/03/2025 20:01

Christopher is a classic name and one of the greats.

Yes extremely boomerish. Grown man married with adult kids and a drinking problem comes to mind.

LollyLand · 27/03/2025 20:05

It’s a 90s name to me. I had a lot of friends and a cousin with the name.

CheeseyOnionPie · 27/03/2025 20:05

Can’t go wrong with Christopher! As long as it’s not shortened to Topher…

TianasBayou · 27/03/2025 20:05

It’s fine. I know a few teens/early 20s, so it had a moment in the early 2000s.

lol that’s your experience! I was just sharing mine!!!

I know 3 Christophers - all 35+

BunnyLake · 27/03/2025 20:28

My friend’s husband is a Chris but it’s not a name I’ve come across since before I had children over twenty year’s ago. Go for it though, nothing wrong with the name. (Chris Hemsworth wears it well).

I’ve just googled it for young celebrities and a young American actor comes up called Christopher Convery who is 17 , so there are younger people called it. Apparently he was in Stranger Things.

Doitrightnow · 27/03/2025 20:30

I know Christophers in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. Seems pretty timeless to me.

(I loathe Topher. Makes me think of gophers and it's so try-hard).

beingstill · 27/03/2025 20:33

I know a Christopher 40s and he has a brother Robin also in his 40s.
They joke that if their mother had a daughter she may have been called piglet.
Both fantastic men.

No, far more gen x. I don't know any who are baby boomers, I can think of about 8 I know, all in their 40's/50's. I don't think you have to be a baby boomer to have any of the things you describe.

Onlyvisiting · 27/03/2025 20:35

Not at all. Very normal classic name to me and I'm 38.
I've no idea if it is a fashionable name for under 20 y/o of course, but I wouldn't bat an eye and think it's such a classic name that has endured forever so fashion really doesn't matter.

But then I'd far rather a slightly frumpy name that is unremarkable than a 'unique' modern name that will age horribly.

BlueFlash · 27/03/2025 20:51

I went to school with lots of them and we have a few in the family around my age so I guess it was really popular in the late 80s/early 90s? I really like it though, it's a classic for a reason!

Moreteaandchocolate · 27/03/2025 20:52

Love it! A classic :)
