Is this TOO old-fashioned?

Is the name 'Christopher' a bit too old-fashioned and Boomer-ish? Generally I like 'classic' names but I guess that some can be a bit much...

It's so boring though.

Zanatdy · 27/03/2025 20:54

My brother is Christopher, Chris. He is 50. I think it’s a fine name, but think it’s had it’s day.

GoldenPineapple15 · 27/03/2025 20:54

I have a 9 year old Christopher . He is the only one in his primary school . It goes without saying , I love the name .

Pumpkincozynights · 27/03/2025 20:55

I consider it a timeless name.

Sourwitch · 27/03/2025 20:57

It’s nice. Chose a name you like because you can’t win. Literally just came off a
different thread asking if their chosen name
was ‘chavvy’. If it’s too common it’s ‘common’, older style name is old fashioned. You literally can’t please everyone so just go with what you like

SailingYachty · 27/03/2025 21:01

Agree with others it’s a classic and probably due a return to popularity sometime soon. I have 2 ex partners called Chris, and now many of the school dads seem to be Chris’s, I know at least 5, it’s very popular in the late 30s/early 40s crowd!

TorroFerney · 27/03/2025 20:34

No, far more gen x. I don't know any who are baby boomers, I can think of about 8 I know, all in their 40's/50's. I don't think you have to be a baby boomer to have any of the things you describe.

If you can read you will see I already previously started this is my experience!

I know 3, one is 35 and a chain smoker with an ex wife.

The other two are 55 - 66 and fit the description given.

Everyone has different experiences and that is why things such as forums exist - to get different people’s, different perspectives.

Thank you.

Imisscoffee2021 · 27/03/2025 21:04

I love Christopher, such a classic and steady yet whimsical sounding name.

LaPalmaLlama · 27/03/2025 21:08

I like it but as a Gen X’er, nearly all my DC’s friends’ dads are either Chris, Steve or Matt, in the same way that nearly all my friend’s dad were called John, so I wonder if it’s yet ready for its revival as he will almost certainly be Chris unless you actively enforce Kit ( and please not Topher).

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 27/03/2025 21:08

I know a toddler Christopher. Given all the “all the Christopher’s I know are 20’s, 35+, 17 etc.” on this thread I think you can be certain it is timeless.

thehorsesareallidiots · 27/03/2025 21:12

Timeless IMO. If I'd had another DS he would have been Christopher, nn Kit.

I may also have a weakness for Kit Connor who is only 21

CandyflossKid · 27/03/2025 21:15

I'm too old now but if I had another boy he would definitely be Christopher - it's a great name.

Only one of those people is a Baby Boomer though.

Comedycook · 27/03/2025 21:17

A little perhaps but it's a great name.

You could have the nickname Kit which would give it a more modern vibe

Offtobuttonmoontovisitmrspoon · 27/03/2025 21:17

Christopher makes me think of other names like Stephen and Gavin.

I think it’s awful.

Kissedbyfire1 · 27/03/2025 21:21

Like it. Kit or Christy as diminutive are better than Chris.

StMarie4me · 27/03/2025 21:21

Some names are timeless and Christopher is one of them.

YourAmberFawn · 27/03/2025 21:21

SnakesAndArrows · 27/03/2025 21:17

Only one of those people is a Baby Boomer though.

I say 55 - 65 as a general term for both of them as I do not want to be rude and guess their ages.

Either way, late end of gen X if not a boomer and still fits the point of what the OP is asking.

BleachedJumper · 27/03/2025 21:24

It’s a solid name.

My dad is a Christopher (only by his mother, he’s a Chris in any other circle) and he did begrudge writing his name as a young child, he used to wish he was a Ben or Lee!

Waitingforspring77 · 27/03/2025 21:28

Lovely name
A solid classic

My cousin is Christopher, he’s 66 so officially a boomer. He was named after his auntie Christine who was a ‘proper’ 1946 boomer. I think it’s timeless. It was quite popular in the 1980s I believe.

Corinthiana · 27/03/2025 21:35

You'd be ahead of the curve! Classic, and not hard sounding. I always think Chris sounds really friendly 😊

I love the name Christine as well. Surely due a revival!
