Which girls name would you pick?

Baby is due in May and we are trying to finalise our girls list...

Which would you pick?

Edie - my top currently. Think it's classy and pretty and still not too popular.

Connie

Marcie - slightly different but is it one of those trendy / modern names that will fade ?

Isabella - Bella as nn. Worried she would end up Izzy though which I'm not keen on.

Clara - like as an adult but can't really imagine as a baby / toddler?

Sadie

Clara
Edie is too popular for me and also a shortening of Edith. Would prefer Edith nn Edie
Isabella also took popular along with all the Ella, Bella type names
I don't like Connie - makes me think of con men and being conned.

Marcie is sort of ok but also sounds like a nickname to me, same with Sadie, not so keen . Would prefer Sarah, with Sadie as a nickname if you really loved it.

Clara is classic and less common than Edie or Isabella

Scutterbug · 16/03/2025 22:54

Clara or Connie. Both gorgeous names x

LilyJosephine · 16/03/2025 23:07

Clara of your list I think. She will have a really brief time as a child - imo it’s more important to think about what sort of name she might like to have as an adult (kids quickly “grow” into their names or sometimes have cute non- related nicknames when little like Pip, Bean, Badger etc). I’d always try to go for something a little more classic where possible, so it avoids dating them or any background assumptions and Clara and Isabella of your list fit closest to that.

But Isabella is a no go if you really hate one of the more common nn’s imo (as you can’t really police it once they are in school/can make up their own mind - it’s probably 70/30 Bella to Izzy imo).

Connie/Marcie/Edie/Sadie are all trendy diminutive style names - they just happen not to have made the Top 100 yet. Of them, I personally like the sound of Edie best - yes, it’s very fashionable but at least it’s Edie Sedgwick cool and has a nice sound (though a bit similar to Evie). Sadie and Connie don’t sound very nice to me and Marcie blends into all the Marnie’s and Darcie’s. You might like similar Sylvie though?

GiddyCrab · 16/03/2025 23:18

I would pick Eden rather than Edie.
Dislike Connie. The others are ok but a bit bland.

Enough4me · 16/03/2025 23:19

Clara or Connie.

LoudPlumDog · 16/03/2025 23:20

Clara, 100%

What about …

Cora or Coral?

Sadie

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 17/03/2025 01:55

Clara, she can share her name with my car! 🚙

NormasArse · 17/03/2025 02:42

I used to teach a Connie- she was ace!!

mathanxiety · 17/03/2025 02:47

I like Sadie, Clara, and Edie (though I'd put Edith on the BC). I think they suit any stage of life.

I don't like Connie at all, or Marcie. Isabella is very popular.

BoleynMemories13 · 17/03/2025 06:34

I like Sadie, Clara and Edie the best (although I do think Edie would be better as Edith on the birth certificate as Edie feels a bit nothingy on it's own). It could get misheard as Evie though, which is much more popular. Clara is fine on a baby, there are plenty around these days. Lara could be an alternative though if you're not sure? Or Zara?

I quite like Connie but, again, I'm not sure how it holds as a given name and I really dislike Constance (reminds me of incontinence).

Isabella is ok but I'm the opposite to you. I like Izzy and I'm really not keen on Bella.

Marcie isn't for me, at all. I'm not a fan of any of the similar trends either, like Marnie and Marley. I think they'll all date badly.

I think Sadie would be my top choice over all. Traditionally it's short for Sarah, if you wanted another option for the birth certificate, but I do think this one works ok as a given name.

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/03/2025 07:50

Clara or Edie

SallyWD · 17/03/2025 08:22

I like Clara and Edie, but only with Edith as they full name. I don't like nicknames on the birth certificate.

Marchingintoapril · 17/03/2025 10:31

You have very similar taste in names to me.
Favourite would be Clara, closely followed by Connie and Sadie.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/03/2025 10:42

How do you feel about Marcia with Marcie as a nn? I know a little girl called a Marcia and she is awesome so that is a big yes from me!

really like Clara and Edie (Edith) not so keen on the others but i must say Sadie is growing on me.

Jessieshome · 17/03/2025 11:22

Edie - Not a fan of this name myself, bit old and fuddy duddy.

Connie - a 60 year old country singer.

Marcie - Kind a like, I've always had a soft spot for Darcy too.

Isabella - Bella as nn. - very popular, but it is a very lovely name, hence the popularity. I had a dog called Bella though so never been a fan of it as a nickname.

Clara - I absolutely love this name, it was high up my girls name lists, I think it has a lovely sound and I think it definitely works for a little girl up to adulthood.

Sadie - nice.

user1492757084 · 17/03/2025 11:29

My favourites, inspired from you list ..
Edwina - Edie
Marcie
Claris
Mary-Ellen
Constance
Sara

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 17/03/2025 11:30

Clara. Lovely name

ie names are a bit twee and naff IMO

GreenCandleWax · 17/03/2025 11:40

Edie and Connie are shortened names (Edith and Constance), and so presumably is Marcie (Marcia?). Of the others I prefer Isabella as its classic, and at a push Clara. Not really keen on Sadie.

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/03/2025 12:03

My favourites are Edie (if short for Edith) and Connie (Constance). Clara is quite nice but I find it a bit sickly and it’s very popular amongst little ones where I am. Sadie is OK.

Personally, I’m not keen on Marcie and I don’t like Isabella/Bella - it’s just too fluffy and princessy for me. I like Isobel.

selondon28 · 17/03/2025 12:05

I love Clara and think it suits all ages. I know an Edie and at age 7 she already prefers to be called Edith, so I think I’d go for Edie as a nn for Edith rather than a name on it’s own.

Emanwenym · 17/03/2025 12:07

Edie - Short for Edith and Eden. Also very similar to Evie. Will be Ede.
Connie - lovely if short for Constance
Marcie - doesn't seem modern, might be short for Marcia, Marcelle or Marcela.Too close to the now dated Darcey.
Isabella - Bella and Izzy both far too popular
Clara - not keen but it's OK
Sadie - might be short for Sarah, but is OK on its own

I'd use isabella as a middle name. Connie as a first name.

I would NOT use May as a middle name.

LonelyMom123 · 17/03/2025 12:25

I love Sadie and Marcie, and like Edie and Connie. Not keen on Clara and Isabella.

MrsPeregrine · 17/03/2025 12:28

Clara is adorable. I also like the name Connie.
