Which girls name would you pick?

Baby is due in May and we are trying to finalise our girls list...

Which would you pick?

Edie - my top currently. Think it's classy and pretty and still not too popular.

Connie

Marcie - slightly different but is it one of those trendy / modern names that will fade ?

Isabella - Bella as nn. Worried she would end up Izzy though which I'm not keen on.

Clara - like as an adult but can't really imagine as a baby / toddler?

Sadie

Edie as a full name or will Edith be on the bc? If you want to call her Bella then just put that on the bc as she’ll be known as Izzy at school. Not keen on Sadie or Marcie.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/03/2025 12:29

Isabella or Clara.

I find the -ie names a bit twee.

Shetlands · 17/03/2025 12:30

Clara

ridl14 · 17/03/2025 12:30

Edie is lovely! I'd go full name Edith personally. Also a big fan of Connie though I'd also use a longer name (not a huge fan of Constance though).

I know one young Edith and one young Connie - don't think they're overly trendy names but they're also not so dated to be unheard of on a young girl these days

MakkaPakkasCave · 17/03/2025 12:46

Edie I’m not keen on as it makes me think of Grey Gardens.

How about Marnie instead of Marcie?

Connie is fine as long as full name is Constance which I think is nicer.

Clara would by my pick.

Sadie makes me think of an old lady but also if someone’a first language isn’t English they might pronounce it “Sad-ie”.

Isabella is lovely but you’re right, she’d be called Izzy which is awful and Bella is nice but a bit contrived.

Comedycook · 17/03/2025 12:49

Definitely Connie...very nice

Edie is a bit twee for me and too much like Evie...and these names are everywhere.

Marcie is ok

Clara is suddenly very popular and whilst it's nice I think it will date badly... although you might not care about this.

Isabella is a nice name...very very popular though.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/03/2025 14:43

Clara would be my girls name if I had another daughter - love it - it’s got that vintage yet modern feel that I love.

Edie - lovely - it is a diminutive to me but lots of names are these days so no issue with that. It does sound quite like Evie though and there are loads of those around, which is maybe worth considering.

I know a lovely little Connie but I’m not sure how well it works for an adult - it wouldn’t suit me!

Marcie - lovely and although it’s more trendy it hasn’t got popular enough (yet) to date badly I don’t think.

Sadie - nice

Isabella - so popular (with all the variations) round me that I’ve gone off it.

Edie May
Sally May
Edina May
Edith Maisie
Edwina Maybelle

Leeloo1233 · 18/03/2025 16:37

Just to note that every single person in the world who is not a native english speaker will pronounce Edie as Eddie and will assume that it is a boy name. Trust me this happened to my friend and it drove her insane. Eventually she changed her name, but kept Edie as nickname.

Emanwenym · 18/03/2025 16:40

@Leeloo1233 , your friend formerly known as Edie must have known an awful lot of people.

RedOnyx · 18/03/2025 18:06

I used to know a Connie whose full name was Cornelia. Could that be an option if you don't like Constance? I'm not sure Connie as an actual name works past primary school age.

Clara is lovely.

Lampzade · 18/03/2025 18:07

Clara or Constance ( not fond of Connie)

Enko · 18/03/2025 18:08

Sadie.
I dont care for Connie personally
The others are too popular for my liking.

Notellinganyone · 18/03/2025 18:13

Clara is lovely. Connie and Edie I like but I would go with Constance or Edith and just shorten.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/03/2025 18:22

Arabella nn Bella avoids the risk of Izzy and is anyway much nicer and more unusual

KayEmAy · 18/03/2025 18:57

I'd pick Sadie :)

While I also like Isabella, if you're not keen on Izzy I'd vote for something else or move it to a middle name

ToadRage · 08/05/2025 09:28

The only one on your list I like is Sadie. Edie is in my opinion a shortening of Edith which is very much an old lady name, knew a couple of Connie's at school, again it is an abbreviation of Constance. Clara is too close to Claire which is the name of an aunt i dislike. Isabella/Bella hit popularity with Twilight.

JuneySunshine · 08/05/2025 13:41

I like Connie but would consider Constance so she has a 'proper' name as a bit nickname-y.

Edie might not be popular but so many girls names with vowels like that atm in my mind it just goes in the same bucket (Eva, Evie, Ada, Ava etc.)

I think you could probably make Bella happen, especially in pre-teen years but again very popular.

StrongandNorthern · 08/05/2025 14:08

Edith is a gorgeous, timeless name. You can still shorten to Edie.

stanzatwo · 08/05/2025 18:37

Clara by a country mile!

nyancatdays · 08/05/2025 19:07

Edie short for Edith, or Clara. Both lovely names!

I love Isabella but there are several in every primary class! Not keen on Connie, Marcie or Sadie. All a bit too old-fashioned-American but not in a good way for me.

Escapingagain · 08/05/2025 20:24

Clara or Edie

Hazelmaybe · 08/05/2025 21:08

Clara by far

mathanxiety · 08/05/2025 21:14

I like Sadie and Edith. I would use Edie as a nn only.

Clara is also nice. I know girls named Clara aged 1 to 17 - it suits them all.

Connie and Marcie are very drab imo, the sort of names you'd expect a waitress in a greasy diner to have. Not at all trendy or modern or particularly attractive, in other words.

mathanxiety · 08/05/2025 21:16

Isabella is really, really popular, and she's very likely to be called Izzy regardless of your preference for Bella.
If you want her to be called Bella, then I'd choose Bella as the full name.
